Thank you to all those who posted a reply. Yes, I was referring to Hythe , Kent of Cinque Ports. I do have a lot of Cloak history of this side. I still am of opinion that the Rye family originated in Hythe, but as Mark has advised trying to obtain info prior to 1700 very hard. Everyone have a great day & thanks again from Australia. Graham |

It looks as though there are two groups. One who has always lived in the Folkestone/Hythe area and one that has always lived in Rye. |

We would now know Limpne as Lympne. Again it is in the same area. All these places more or less surround Romney Marsh. Once notorious for smuggling. |

HYTHE in Kent is one of the original Cinque Ports - Rye is associated as a ‘Head’ Port |

Graham needs to let you know which of the many English Hythes he is referring to. Hythe in Kent is not too far from Rye in Sussex. |

No suggestion of any connection with Cheshire as far as I can see |

Can’t see there is a connection as the family are in Sussex which is a long way from Cheshire |
