I'd actually forgotten what a nightmare this family was. I hadn't researched it much for a few years and now I know why! As I said earlier in this thread, we have just moved house so only have my computer notes to go on. Reading through this thread I'm thinking I need to take a couple of steps back. There are an awful lot of Naylors in the St. Helens and surrounding area and there are a lot with same name, similar birth years, which makes it very difficult. I know that Joseph, born 1820, is my direct line and it's from his marriage certificate that I got his father as John. In 1841 & 1851 census his brothers James and Peers were living with mom Margaret at Ravenhead Glass Works Lodge. In 1871 Peers is with his sister Margaret and niece Alice. In 1881 he's with his sister Margaret and niece Jane. Peers never married and neither did Margaret. From memory I know I explored other branches of the family and no doubt have notes on Alice and Jane, but nothing on my computer. A number of years ago I visited the UK and the cemetery where some of the Naylors are buried. I was very limited on time and only managed to see a few of them but one I did take a picture of was for a James died 3 May 1878 age 54 and Margaret 5 June 1899 age 77. I think James was married to Margaret Norris. As to Henry, maybe I'm guilty of taking the word of the contacts I had in the UK - something I know should definitely not be done. So, until my notes surface I think I'm going to have to do some more digging on this.

Looks llike Benjamin may have emigrated to Canada - but the details of parents and siblings have been added by a Findagrave contributor, so may not be correct :
Banjamin Naylor in the Global, Find a Grave Index for Burials at Sea and other Select Burial Locations, 1300s-Current Name: Banjamin Naylor Gender: M (Male) Birth Date: 26 Oct 1817 Birth Place: Lancashire, England Death Date: 1878 Death Place: East Wawanosh Township, Huron County, Ontario, Canada Has Bio?: N Father: John Naylor <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Mother: Margaret Naylor <<<<<<<<<<< Spouse: Mary Naylor Children: William Benjamin Naylor James Naylor Joshua Naylor Andrew Naylor Ambrose Naylor Nancy Maria Naylor David H. Naylor
Benjamin Naylar in the 1871 Census of Canada Name: Benjamin Naylar Gender: Male Marital Status: Married Widowed: M Origin: English Age: 54 Birth Date: 1817 Birth Place: England Residence Place: Wawanosh East, Huron North, Ontario District Number: 26 Subdistrict: d Division: 02 Religion: Weslyan Methodist Occupation: Farmer Family Number: 123 Neighbors: Household Members Age Benjamin Naylar 54 Mary Naylar 52 William Naylar 16 David Naylar 11 John Naylar 7
The Findagrave contributor claims that Margaret's maiden name was Waterhouse. Born 1775 in Blackburn; died England c1820.
The contributor also claims that John was born in Lancashire in 1766, and died c1820.
That couple are in multiple trees on Ancestry, but the only child listed with them is Benjamin - because the trees belong to descendants of Benjamin. Most have copied from each other as usual.

John and Margaret had a son Benjamin, who was born in 1817.
Benjamin Nailor in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 Name: Benjamin Nailor Birth Date: 4 Oct 1817 Baptism Date: 26 Oct 1817 Parish: Prescot, St Helens, Lancashire, England Father: John Nailor [ glassmaker ] Mother: Margarat Nailor Register Type: Parish Registers
Possible other children - unless there's another couple named John and Margaret Naylor/Nailor in that area::
Martha Naylor in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 Name: Martha Naylor Baptism Date: 25 Jun 1815 Parish: St Helen's, Lancashire, England Phillimore Ecclesiastical Parish Map: View this parish Father: John Naylor [ labourer ] Mother: Margrit Naylor Register Type: Bishop's Transcripts
Joseph Nailor in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 Name: Joseph Nailor Birth Date: 27 Jan 1820 Baptism Date: 27 Feb 1820 Parish: Prescot, St Helens, Lancashire, England Father: John Nailor [ labourer ] Mother: Margarat Nailor Register Type: Parish Registers
John Nailor in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 Name: John Nailor Baptism Date: 14 Mar 1813 Parish: Prescot, St Helens, Lancashire, England Father: John Nailor [ labourer ] Mother: Margaret Nailor Register Type: Parish Registers
That's the John whose occupation you were asking about in another thread https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1391173

Peers is in 19 trees on Ancestry, but none of them (as far as I can see) list Henry as one of his siblings.
The Henry in the censuses with wife Jane defintiely married Jane Stringfellow, going by the birth records of the sons:
eg - NAYLOR, WILLIAM mmn STRINGFELLOW GRO Reference: 1859 J Quarter in PRESCOT Volume 08B Page 577
NAYLOR, JOHN mmn STRINGFELLOW GRO Reference: 1854 J Quarter in PRESCOT Volume 08B Page 495
So he is definitely the son of Edmund and Ellen - shown in the marriage already posted.
Also his baptism:
: Henry Nailor in the Lancashire, England, Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1911 Name: Henry Nailor Birth Date: 16 Sep 1816 Baptism Date: 27 Oct 1816 Parish: Prescot, St Helens, Lancashire, England Father: Edmund Nailor Mother: Ellen Nailor Register Type: Parish Registers
So we can count him out.
Can't see any baptism or anything for Henry, son of John and Margaret.
Did your contacts say where they found his name?

I've been trying to find my original notes on John and Margaret and their children, but having just moved house they seem to be mislaid. I have found though some emails from three contacts I had in the UK that were all from that line and they all have that same list of children. The irony is that they all have Henry married to Jane Stringfellow as stated above. According to the references above though, the father of the Henry that married Jane was Edmund.

Thanks. I’m stumped though as to why I can’t find anything about Henry. I’m wondering if perhaps he could’ve died.

I'm not at all sure that Henry was born in 1817. I have the following children from parents John Naylor (Nailor) and Margaret: John b. approx. 1813 Margaret b. approx. 1815 Henry b. approx. 1817 Joseph b. 1820, baptised 27 Feb 1820 James b. 8 June 1823, baptised 29 June 1823 Peers b. 5 April 1825, baptised 24 April 1825
Joseph is my direct line.
Margaret and Peers never married. I have nothing on Henry.

Where did you find the information that his parents were John and Margaret?
I don't see any baptism with that info.
If it was from his marriage cert, who did he marry?
How did you work back to him?

I thought you had hit the nail on the head with the 1841 reference, giving Henry Naylor living in the same household as Jane Stringfellow, but looking at other info given, Henry's father is shown as Edmund. My Henry's father was John, so I guess this puts me back to square one. Thanks.
