Mary Hilton was the sister of my Great-great-grandfather John Hilton. Their father was Robert Hilton.
Mary was born in Lancashire in 1830 – source 1851 census in Green Bank Square, Salford. All her siblings were born in Prestwich and I have found their baptisms on lan-opc.org.uk but I cannot find Mary’s baptism.
In the first two census, Mary was single and living with her parents Robert and Alice (nee Davenport).
In the 4th Quarter of 1851 Mary Hilton married Henry Wynne
By the 1861 census, she was a widow, with a son and daughter (Walter and Mary Alice) and living, with her mother and other siblings in Green bank Square, Salford.
There was an order to forcibly remove her from Salford back to Manchester in November 1861. (Lancashire, England, Quarter Session Records and Petitions, 1648-1908). There had been a previous one in 1860 to remove her to Shropshire, but the appeal had been upheld. The reason for the removal seems to be that she was poor and had not lived in Salford for the previous five years. Why should this be if she was living with her mother and had an occupation?
In April 1866 she married John Vickers and is with him and her son Walter Wynne in the 1871 census in Devine Street, Salford. Her daughter Mary Alice, who would have been about 14 year old is not present. Unfortunately, John Vickers also died and in the 1881 census, she in Duckett Street, Burnley with her sister Sarah Lord and brother John Hilton.
On 5 Oct 1885 Mary married John Baldwin in Habersham Eves.
Mary seems far more interesting than any other member of the family, and I was wondering if the good people here think I have correctly followed the clues. I can only find a civil registration of her first two marriages so don’t have the confirmation from seeing her father’s name or any witnesses. I don’t know if anyone has access to records that are not on ancestry or parish clerks online where these might be available.
I’d also be grateful if you were able to find Mary’s baptism c1830.
What happened to Mary’s daughter Mary Alice b1856?
Where were Mary and John Baldwin in the 1891 census? John was a jeweller when he married in 1885 so it is likely that that would still be his occupation in 1891 but I cannot find him or Mary.
I hope I have provided enough details. Thank you in anticipation.

If what I have found is correct, Robert Hilton married Alice Davenport in Manchester Cathedral on 5 Nov 1821.
This look up was based on the later siblings being in GRO with the mother's maiden name. Both William and Sarah Hilton had a mother with a maiden name of Davenport. I then searched for a marriage between Robert Hilton and Alice Davenport in the Manchester / Prestwich area.
It would have made them both only 18 years old, but that is possible.

Thanks once again ArgllGran. That link is really interesting and might explain why there was a petition to remove her to Shropshire.
If Henry Wynne 'settlement' parish was in Shropshire then although they married in Salford and he seems to have died there, the parish wanted to remove her elsewhere, lest she become a burden. Her own settlement parish would have been Manchester from her father's birth presumably.
it all seems a bit tragic. Your husband dies and on top of that the parish want to move you elsewhere!

I also saw this one in the 1891 but as the occupation was so totally different, I dismissed it.
The birth and baptism for Mary is great though as I hadn't found that. There is a slight variation on ages though.
Baptised 14 Sep 1828 Married on 5 Oct 1885 aged 56 She would have been 57. Robert's occupation is the same and the mother's name is the same. I think it must be her.
