But that doesn't fit with my reading of what Caza said -

To me that means that in 1851 Barbara was with William 1812 and his father.

Perhaps I haven't understood Caza's post.

Could be his sister.


You say she's with the family in 1851 - but not according to Ancestry's transcription (below).
You need to look at the image of the original on Scotland People to see if the transcription is accurate or not.

The 1812 baptism showing mother as Jean is the only likely one on SP - but of course other records may not have survived, or other children not have been baptised.

this is the only william hewison born orkney

to a william and jean

can;t find any other children

I can't even see a baptism for the alleged son, never mind any marriage between Harcus and Hewison

William and jean had a son William who married a Ursula Reid but not till the 1830s coincidence there is now anothe urcilla reid!!

Their marriage record (which I can't find so far) won't show their fathers' names.
