Not unusual for the groom's father not to be named pre statutory records in 1855. I have a couple, both in the Edinburgh area where the bride's father is named but not the groom's. |

There are three marriages on that image page, and none of them has parental details for the groom - only for the bride - so I don't think we can deduce anything about James's parentage from that. |

It's always possible that his death has been missed from the index. I have come across this before. I have never found the death registration of my great great grandfather although I have a date for it. I found the burial place of his wife and contacted the holders of the cemetery records to find out who was buried in the same lair. Sure enough he was buried there and I got the date of burial. As the family weren't well off, I'm fairly sure he died in Glasgow but I've checked every death registered in Scotland with all variations of his name and age without success. It is disappointing as he was born in Ireland and it was my only hope of finding his mother's name. |

Although both those places are in Berwickshire, neither of them is particularly near Eyemouth. |

As far as his birth is concerned, SP (as you've no doubt discovered) shows no births of a James Hunter in Eyemouth c1817. |

As I said - that is the only death in Edinburgh meeting all the parameters suggested by the census records. |
