Thanks for all of this. However, George Spencer born in Southam, Warwickshire in 1797, is detailed to have married Sarah Graves with the marriage place in Southam on 11 March 1824. Thomas Spencer, George's Son is baptised in Coventry on 5 January 1824 and his Mother is detailed as Ann. We know Thomas goes on to have children in Coventry hinting at the family settling there (unless Thomas cooincidentally comes back to Coventry later after growing up in Southam, notwithstanding his Coventry baptism) but George dies in Southam in Quarter 1 of 1871 - visible on page 2 of the BMD Index Entry (on Ancestry). |

Thanks everyone, yeah Maddies’ last message seems to put the whole George of Southam into question doesn’t it? |

The George Spencer baptised Southam seems likely to me but it's difficult to prove. People did marry quite young in those days so could be him. |

I did "8. I do a wider area search of surrounding counties, I get a George Spencer marrying Ann Eaves in Coventry in 1815. I have a 1790 birth of a George Spencer in Birmingham but he dies the following year at 1 year old." |

If you'd said at the outset that you'd accessed the marriage record, it would have been helpful |

Could this be Thomas's father's baptism:- |

This is Thomas in the 1851 census and his occupation is Ribbon Weaver so the 1841 could be right:- |

They were weavers in that period yes :-) But who is his Dad is the big question, from what I can see of the marriage records online, it was George. I think that is a strong lead. So it's the George I can't track down you see.... |
