Ok Let me recap

Joseph and Leah Rushworth were living at West End Place in 1851
1861 they were still there.

1862 Leah Died in west End Place.

The cert I sent for was for Joseph Rushworths death in 1863 aged 74. At time of death he was living in Clayton Union Workhouse. However in 1861 there is a Joseph rushworth in the Workhouse which means he can't be my Joseph. So was he the Joseph that was living with George in the 1841.???

Confusing or what.

Thanks Chris and ErikaH

I suppose i will have to send for her death. Least the PDF version is'nt as expensive as a paper cert.

Then I still have to find Her husband Josephs death. That is looking a bit more tricky as the ages at death don't quite match.

Thanks again

Jane.

Joseph wasn't buried in the same graveyard.

Jane

Jane Report 27 Sep 2019 16:37

ok so that means he was possibly staying with a relative or friend somewhere else when he died?

On Jonathan's marriage cert it states he was living at Mab gate, His dad Joseph made his mark on the cert so he was a live in 1850

The Joseph who was living with George on the 1841 was living at Mab gate. (The name on the census is another name for Mab Gate)

I believe this Joseph possibly died in 1857 aged 66. So maybe this is Jonathan's dad.

Why is this family research so complicated?

You can’t actually have any way of knowing that the Joseph who witnessed Jonathan’s marriage was his father

As there is another thread, I’m bowing out for now.

You really need to tell us who you have worked your way back to - Jonathan or Joseph ?

Jonathan is my direct line on my Dads side.

Charles Gray is my grandad He married Elizabeth Rushworth on 18/04/1927 Leeds (Marriage cert )

Elizabeth Rushworth Dad was William Rushworth b c1863 her Mum was Sarah Ann South. (Elizabeths Birth cert) She was living at 7 Stanhope Terrace. At time of Marriage William and Sarah were living at Roscoe Terrace Sheepscar Leeds. (Marriage Cert) Marriage Oct 1890.

The marriage cert for William And Sarah gives Williams father as Jonathan Rushworth a Cloth dresser.

JOnathan Rushworth Marriage in 1850 to Elizabeth Faubert They were living in Mabgate Leeds. Jonathan was a Cloth dresser and aged 24 and his father ws Joseph Rushworth a Cloth dresser
Elizabeth was 20 living in Mabgate and her father was William Faubert a labourer. (Marriage cert)

That is all the actual proof I have.

I do not have Jonathan and his mum or dad on any census. I can not get a birth cert for Jonathan because of his date of birth.

Thanks for helping me

Jane.

Hi Chris and ErikaH

Thanks for helping me. Yes I did investigate this back in 2015 and it seems that I have not got any further with my research now .

The only thing I am sure of is Jonathan is my direct line and that according to his marriage cert his fathers name was Joseph. The Joseph that witnessed the marriage could have been the Joseph he was living with on the 1841.

1641 census - I believe the Jonathan Martha and Joseph are not brothers and sister.. Could It be that that Jonathan is not mine?

Its seems I am not getting anywhere with this line and I will just have to except I have hit a brick wall that will not come down.

Thanks again

If you have got (or, can get access to Ancestry) they have a lot of West Yorkshire BMD's...might take time, but you can see images, using different keywords (surname rush*, or just joseph as father, takes time. The Marriages you mention are on there also)

Chris :)

Thanks Chris.

The library has access to some of ancestry records. I was in there yesterday but for some reason I couldn't see the marriages. I will have another look next time I go in. I think its going to be a case of eliminating them one by one.

Thanks again for helping me.

Jonathan's first child was called Phoebe b1853 Leeds . This child unfortunately died in 1855.

There is also a death for a Phoebe Rushworth in 1828 a couple of years after Jonathan was born. Phoebe was 47 when she died which would have been old for a Mum but possible. Was that age at time of death correct?

She was buried in Batley 01/10/1828. Batley, gildersome, Bruntcliffe , Leeds are all next door to each other and all linked to Jonathan.

I don't know whether anyone can find any information about Phoebe Rushworth b 1781 died 01/10/1828. I have no idea what her maiden name would have been.

Thanks for helping me.
