A much delayed thank you to you all ( I could't remember which message board I'd used). I appreciate the trouble you took, Maddie and Kathleen. It's the father of Luce Lewis in whom I'm interested- just can't find him and I can't understand where the name of John Lewis came from. I had spent the day looking at the parish registers, and it looks as if I was in a rush when I took the notes - probably the place was closing. Just another loose end.

The image is on Findmypast. I wouldn't expect a father's name to be on any marriage record from that time.

The names of the witnesses are Richard William and John Rees.

John Rees's marriage is the one before Samuel Ace's on 3rd February and Samuel Ace was a witness to his marriage.

On the next page in 195 there is a marriage of a Daniel Ace to a Sarah Lewis who could possibly be related to your couple.

Samuel Ace was also a witness to another marriage on that page. Perhaps he had something to do with the church as you often get a church warden or other member of the church being a witness for a number of marriages.

EDIT - Samuel Ace was indeed a witness to quite a lot of marriages on the following pages after his own marriage.

Does anyone have access to the original (ie not Bishop's Transcripts) register for Oxwich? I am looking for a marriage 11 Feb 1793 between Samuel ACE and Luce LEWIS. I took note of the details many years ago, but I think I'm missing something. I believe the full name of Luce Lewis's father was recorded as John Lewis, but it's not on any of the on-line databases which I believe are all based on BTs.
