Hi Dea
So Mark Ebdon born 1890 is Samuel M Ebdon born 1890??? As they did sometimes use their middle names is this not the case?
Also are we saying that the 1871 census info that you have given me is that, John H Ebdon aged 11 yrs is my 2x great grandfather John?
xXx

Also looking at the 1901 census info you have supplied says that the address was Poltimore Square I have just gone to google this and Poltimore House has come up. Bessie Ebdon my great grandmother was a servant at a local Manor House, maybe this one? How would I go about finding the owners at that time. All suggestions are welcome.

Re your question above as to who lived at Poltimore House/Manor.
Apparently until 1920 it was occupied by the Bampfylde family :
1911 Census For England & Wales
Poltimore Park Poltimore Exeter, Poltimore, Devon, England First name(s) Coplestone Richard George Warwick Baron Last name Poltimore Relationship Head Marital status Married Sex Male Age 51 Birth year 1860 Birth place Devon Poltimore Park Occupation Peer Of The Realm Street Poltimore Park Address Poltimore Park Poltimore Exeter Parish Poltimore NB - his name was actually Bamfylde - he was 'Baron Poltimore'...
Also living there was his brother:
First name(s) Francis Warwick Last name Bampfylde Honble (Honble probably is his title - Honorable ??) Relationship Brother Marital status Single Sex Male Age 26 Birth year 1885 Birth place Middlesex 77 Eaton Square London Occupation No Occupation
There was also 1 visitor and around 16 servants - none of them was Bessie.

Well, it just shows how important (NOT), the woman's roll was in those days - I have just found Baron Poltimore's wife of 29 years - Margaret Harriet listed halfway down - after the Baron, his brother, a 'male' visitor and 4 'male' servants. She 'is' at the top of the female servants but I have seen this sort of thing many times and always find it very strange.

I think this now provides the link to prove as far as possible without certs etc. that this is the one you are looking for. He is now an apprentice Bricklayer which fits exactly with the one you are following:
