I am really struggling to find my great grandmother in records. This is her name on her marriage certificate but there is no trace of her earlier. She had a sister Alice and is on the census as having been born in Clapham.

I know it happens but - the 1871 census posted as a possible by Andrew (Andy) shows Father Frederick as a Potman.

Bit of a meteoric rise if he was a Gentleman (albeit deceased) by 1888 !

To confirm - a note in the margin of that Baptism of 11 Nov 1866 gives the birthdate as 11 October 1866 (not showing in the post)

This is very coincidental - but if the same Frederick as 1881 etc. then either he wasn't deceased when Mame married or it's the wrong family or perhaps they were estranged?

Wow wow wow. Thank you so much. Have searched these records several times without the success you have had. Yes she is the one who married Francois Petrzywalski and the rest does seem to have merit. The link with sister Alice seems strong. And Mame is a good corruption of Emma.
