Hi, I'm trying to establish the parentage of my great grandmother AMY/ANNIE BALCHIN

My problem is that I can't find a reference number on FreeBMD for an AMY/ANNIE Balchin's birth In 1877, Wanborough. This is the year and area that appears for her on the 1911 and 1939 census.

I'm not sure of her parentage and she only appears on one census before she got married in 1905. Her father is stated as John on her marraige certificate. I can only find a possible match for her on the 1891 census and she appears to be going by the name Annie.

On her marriage certificate she is Amy and on her children's birth certificates she is known as Amy.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

The information is what I have found and believe is probably my great grand mother.

I think the only way to check is with her birth certificate but I'm not sure that the entry on Freebmd is the one I need as Jane doesn't appear anywhere as a middle name on any family information I have which is not much.

I think the parish register is probably my best bet.

Other than the 1881 census posted, and the 1891 you already had, this is the only other census before her marriage I can find Amy, and it's no use with her parents.

She gives her birthplace as Flexford, same as in 1881. Flexford and Wanborough are both in the Guildford area:

Seeing Amy's birth date on the 1939 census confirms what year and quarter she might appear in. I wasn't able to see this information when I looked.

The only possible entry on Freebmd would appear to be for Amy Jane. Strange that the middle name Jane doesn't appear on any of the certifcates I have got for her. I guess this must be her.

Her father John Balchin was a carpenter on her marriage cerfitcate so it all seems to point to John and Ann being her parents, from the 1881 census.

I think seeing Amy's name on the 1881 census as Annie, lead me to doubt that they were one and the same person.

I'm assuming one and the same person. Ellen
