The 1881 census says lewis was a farm labourer, then in later years he was a lead miner.

I thought he was a lead miner in 1877?

" Lewis was 39, she was 24. He was widowed, she is spinster. he is Lead miner, she has no occ. "

Marriage cert 1877 says lead miner. census 1881 says farm labourer. By 1901 he was dead. Dont know when he died.

Possible death for the wife in the 1871 that I posted.

It could be her alviegal, I wouldnt mind ordering more certificates if I have to, the PDF's are only £6, it would be worth it to prove it. This one has been so hard to get to the bottom of.

Thats them, number 21 Morton Terrace, in 1901 they are at 4 Sunny Bank and in 1911 they are still at 4 Sunny Bank.

It's so difficult to tell. You could end up paying out a lot and still not find the correct people! Why did they have to be called Jones!!

As for Lewis' death, there are a few to choose from, as I'm sure you already know!

Oh yes. Got it. Thanks Erika. I was looking at the actual census when I wrote that.

I wrote to someone through GR messaging recently because they had a Lewis Jones in their tree with same birth year as the Lewis I am looking for. I am very grateful to GR because they replied to me and it turned out that we are related. Her Great Grandmother Jane Jones mentioned above is my Great Great Grandmothers sister, Catherine Jones, Catherine and Jane are both the daughters of Lewis Jones and Elenour Jones (nee Humphreys) We have since swopped and shared a lot of information.

I would also like to thank Erika with regards to the child Mary Ann (mmn Evans) I ordered PDF birth certificate and it shows mothers name Ruth Evans, Father Lewis Jones and the address on the certificate check out with Lewis's address. So I have found at least one of his other wifes.(If they married).

We are still stuck on Lewis Jones birth date. I ordered one PDF birth certificate but it was the wrong one.

In the 1841 cencus mentioned above Lewis is said to have been born appx 1839. We think he may have been born 3rd or last qtr. of 1838, but before I order another certificate I wanted to ask you if it is possible to check whether or not there is a baptism record for Lewis, were know that his Father was John Jones, a Hatter and that his Mothers name was Elizabeth. no occ.

Failure to register births wasn’t penalised until 1875, so not all births were registered

However, I believe that the GRO offers the facility to specify parents’ names when ordering certs. You’ll need to check, as I am not 100% on that.

Erika, you are right, you can specify parents names when using GRO. The only birth I found for Lewis with MMN Thomas was the one I ordered the PDF for and it came back with Father Edward Jones and Mother Mary Jones, formally Thomas. DOB 18th March 1838, district Newtown, Montgomery.

Do you mean you've found a birth reg for him in 3rd qr 1838?
I can't see one on the GRO site - not born in Aberystwyth reg district, with mms Thomas (or any other mms, for that matter).

Should have said June qtr. 1838. Lewis Jones, Reg district Machynlleth. County Montgomeryshire. Vol 27 Page 89. Found this one on Ancestry so no MMN stated.
