Find Ancestors

I've had a previous thread on this, but it went nowhere so looking for more help please.

His name was given to me by my mother, he was Kevin McLeish she reckoned he was from Ireland and a couple of years older than her, so born c1932. In reality he could have been born between 1920 & 1935, but I can't find any birth E&W, Scotlands people or Ireland. I got a researcher to search GRO NI, but nothing showing (maybe Kevin was his middle name, which doesn't show on GRONI indexes).

Doubtful that the info given to me was right, I took an ancestry DNA test, which links to a few 4th cousins living in USA descended from Edward Macaleese of Ireland & Archibald McLeish born c1831 Ireland but lived/died in Scotland. I'm in contact with one of the cousins, but we can't seem to get anywhere with how we connect.

Sorry to be so long winded, but any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks Maddie, yes that's him. Hugh was born Scotland and in 1912 took his family to USA who the cousins are descendant. Margaret (jnr) was born Ireland, and I think she married in 1886 to Michael Casey (or Cassey). I can't find her after 1901 where she was a widow, Michael having died in a mining accident in 1899.

I should have added, there was a Kevin Macaleese born in Dublin 1915, but he died in 1916 so can be eliminated.

I think Archibald McLeish died in Renfrewshire, Scotland in 1885 (but not sure). I believe he was married to Margaret Gillen, who also died in Scotland.

Hugh McLeish married in 1879 to Elizabeth Hannigan, born c1859 Renfrewshire or so I'm led to believe.

However what you've found must cast doubts on the cousins tree if Archibald may have died in Indiana?

Always dubious of other family trees, but have been trying to concentrate on the only lead I've had so far. I may have been mis-led.

Edit, I've added a bit to this.

Thank you both, all this info ties in with Hugh's son Charles shown as 22 on the 1920 census (and age 3 on Erica's 1901 census) - he's the father of the "cousin" I'm in contact with, and that marriage to Anna is also correct as these were his parents.

I haven't located the family in 1911, but don't know if the Scottish census is online. Hugh and his family went to US in 1912, preceeded by 3 of Hugh's sons (UK outgoing passenger lists only as I don't have worldwide sub).

My mother met Kevin in Kendal, Westmorland - but he didn't stay around when he found she was pregnant. She did not know what happened to him after 1954.

I think I may need to go back further to the siblings of Archibald (c1831 Ireland) but I can't find anything on him - other than the Scotland census - and now Maddie has cast a doubt on the death we had thought in Scotland.

Have you tried the name Kelvin as that's has Irish links.

I've tried all sorts of variants Kay, but nothing coming up. The researcher I used in Belfast also tried all variants on surname/forename and did suggest Kevin may be a middle name which isn't shown on the index search.

The researcher came up with 9 male Mcleish (and variants) births 1921-1935 in NI but I have no idea if any are correct as the index does not include second names or initials. She also provided me with 6 marriages, so I've tried the spouses names but no matches with my DNA results for any of them - not that means anything though as it rather depends on who has done the test.

Maddie, going back to that death you found for Archie, is there a year/date of death please? I believe Hugh died July 1930 and his wife Elizabeth in August 1927 both in Clinton, Vermillion, Indiana.
