Hi all. Looking for birth of my GGmother Jane Wood b1852/3 Kingsland Middlesex (Hackney area maybe) I know she married Robert Godsall in 1871 and it shows her father as Henry Wood a Plasterer. The only census I found for her is1871 prior to marriage where she is a servant in a pub in Bermondsey. Can't find 1861census. I have tried GRO BMD LDS and am on Ancestry but can not find any concrete evidence of her birth or Henry's marriage or mother's name. Hope you guy's can help. Regards Les.

It may be her birth wasn't registered
Before 1875 many weren't so it bacame law that births had ti be reg within six weeks of the birth
Did she have siblings that could be traced on the records etc

Hi Malyon I did see this one but was not sure if Bethnal Green was near/in Kingsland Middx.?
On a number of census when she is married they all show as born Kingsland. Thank You, I will dig into this census a bit more.

PROBLEM .....
that 1871 Census posted by malyon ....................
England and Wales Census, 1871
Name: Jane Wood Event Type: Census Event Date: 1871 Event Place: Bethnal Green, London, Middlesex, England Enumeration District: 11 Gender: Female Age: 18 Marital Status: Single Occupation: Fancy Trimmer Relationship to Head of Household: Daughter Birth Year (Estimated): 1853 Birthplace: Bethnal Green, Middlesex Entry Number: 11 Affiliate Image Identifier: GBC/1871/0493/0149 Household Role Sex Age Birthplace Henry Wood Head Male 53 Bethnal Green, Middlesex Mary Ann Wood Daughter Female 20 Bethnal Green, Middlesex Jane Wood Daughter Female 18 Bethnal Green, Middlesex Rebecca Wood Daughter Female 15 Bethnal Green, Middlesex
I've just looked at the image on FMP, and Henry's occupation is shown as CARMAN
Les posted that Jane's marriage certificate shows Henry's occupation as PLASTERER
It's not impossible that he changed occupations between the census and Jane's marriage, but I'd say it was unlikely in the short time span.
FWIW ............ Jane and Robert married in August .........
London, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1932

Hi Abby. I think you mayhave solved it, the only query is the 1861census shows Elizabeth as a widow but Henry is not deceased on 1871 marriage of Jane!I will sort it all out on laptop later. Many thanks.
You guys never cease to amaze me. Thank you to all who responded. :-) :-) Regards Les.

Other peculiarities:
1851 says John Middleton was Henry's brother-in-law. However, he was born in Norwich, as other censuses agree, and Elizabeth was born in Oxfordshire.
The twins in 1861 census have mms Croxford, not Middleton:
WOOD, ALFRED HENRY mms CROXFORD GRO Reference: 1861 M Quarter in NEWINGTON Volume 01D Page 243
WOOD, SARAH ANN mms CROXFORD GRO Reference: 1861 M Quarter in NEWINGTON Volume 01D Page 243
If Henry did die between 1851 and 1861, he must have died 1860-61, assuming all the children are his. I don't see any likely death, unless he wasn't in either Hackney or Newington at the time.

I don't see the births of William, Henry, or Jane with mms either Middleton or Croxford, nor any marriage of the parents.
