I don't know that he DID die in 1916- its just that this is what is said on the family tree. However Tom from Ffestiniog who died in 1918 enlisted in Tredegar close to Merthyr in the Cheshire Regiment so I think that I'll try and contact them |

Yes, that's why I chickened out of pursuing that line of enquiry, but kudos to you, ArgyllGran, for having a decent go at it. :-D |

There are no marriages of a Jack Davies to a Pearl, in England and Wales, but there are some marriages of men named John Davies to ladies named Pearl. |

Dea- you are the contributor who keeps giving! Having just read your post I went to look out the wedding photo of Ellis and his wife. I also checked my family tree info and some old newspaper cuttings . I noticed that Ellis's father David was in Ellis's wedding photo and the family tree tells me that he survived Ellis by a year. His wife Jane nee Roberts ( my husband's great -grandmother) died within months of giving birth to her youngest child- the sister of Ellis and Tom. By the time David died he had lost his wife almost 40 years before and two daughters (adults) and two sons. |

Oh Frances - I did not realise that this information could be so significant to anyone. |

Dea- Thank you SO much- I didn't know about this and it has reduced me to tears.! I knew he was well respected and he married late in life to a Mrs Jeannie Crampton a widow with three children whose husband had died in th States . She and one of her daughters are also buried in Llan. Llan is the local name for Llanffestiniog which is where the original settlement was. Blaenau Ffestiniog which is what most people would associate with the name" Ffestiniog" , only came into being on the discovery of slate there. |

Yes I would have- no it isn't and that has implications for finding his service record. If I find someone I think is him I won't be able to cross check it if his next of kin is a wife I don't know of. I'm more keenly aware of this because earlier this year we finally found another casualty from the Great War- a " Jones" and we had been looking for him for years. We knew we had the right person when the cwgc site had my husband's great-grandparents as his next of kin. |

I'm sure you would have said if Tom's wife's name was on the family tree, as Betty and Jack are named?? |

Duh! Sorry! I was wondering why someone thought he had married in 1876. Yes I knew his parents were David and Jane and Jane WAS a Roberts . The eldest child of whom I am aware was born in1877 ( Elizabeth) . She died in 1899 which may be why Tom named his daughter Elizabeth/Betty |
