I am looking for a cousin of my father.

She was called Dorothea S. Smith, b Dec Qtr 1924 in Weymouth, Dorset.

Her parents were Albert Richard Smith, 1894 - 1966, & Florence (Nee White) 1893 - 1965.

The family ended up in Bridport, West Dorset, but I believe Dorothea moved / emigrated (?) to South Africa at some point. Family story of a connection to South Africa.

I don't know if she married, returned or even when & where she died. Any help gratefully received !

there is only one dorothea born dec quarter 1924 so the death kathleen found could be her if she didnot marry

If you bought her birth certificate it would give you her exact date of birth which would help with a search for her death (if it was after 1969 when full date of birth was added to the death index).

This 1939 record puts a cat amongst the pigeons, as this could be the person who died if the informant got the year of birth wrong :-

Are the any emigration / immigration records to show if she ever went to South Africa and back, if so how recent are they?

Kathleen, have just seen your message. Will get birth cert at some point. As for 1939 entry, that certainly looks promising..!!!

So, between 1939 she is in Manchester, and her death in 1987 in Salford, not too far from Manchester, it looks like she stayed in the area.

Don't know her middle name other than it starts with 'S'.

So not Salford then !!!

This make things a bit more exciting doesn't it ?

So, looks like she emigrated (?) and married a Dutchman. Her middle name of Susanna seems to fit as well.

What's more exciting - she has a son!

How would I know if she ever returned to UK or did she die out in SA?
