I did notice that there some other Doeys on the Canadian censuses that were not part of Thomas and Martha's family ........... but maybe be brothers or cousins????
I think you are going to be very lucky to find a marriage certificate. Certainly there will not be birth certificates for either Thomas or Martha, as both were born before registration was instituted in either Ireland or England & Wales.
Records in the US are kept by state, just as they are in Canada ........ so you have to search the specific State records, and Ontario records.
I am not sure when birth certificates were first issued in Ontario or the states, again it might only be baptism records.

EARLY ORGANISATION OF THE REGISTRATION SERVICE In the early days, the organisation of the service was based on the "unions" of parishes set up under the Poor Law (Ireland) Act 1838. Initially, these unions formed the registrars' districts (for Protestant and civil marriages) and later the superintendent registrars' districts (for births, deaths and Roman Catholic marriages). The Clerk of the Union was usually the superintendent registrar and also often registrar of Protestant and civil marriages. The medical officer of the dispensary district was usually also the registrar of births, deaths and Roman Catholic marriages. Throughout Ireland there were 163 union based registration districts each headed by a superintendent registrar and there were also around 798 dispensary based registration districts, each headed by a registrar of births, deaths and Roman Catholic marriages who reported to the relevant superintendent registrar. In addition, there were 130 registrars of Protestant and civil marriages who reported directly to the Registrar General. The first Registrar General (1844-1876) was William Donnelly
1845 was the first year in which marriages (other than Roman Catholic Marriages) were registered and 6,114 marriages were recorded in the last nine months of the year. The majority of these (4118 were according to the rites of the Established Church, 1586 were in Presbyterian Meeting Houses and 348 marriages were before Registrars of Marriages. In 1864 the first year for the registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (including Catholic Marriages) - there were 136,643 births, 94,095 deaths and 27,373 marriages recorded.

If they married in Ireland I think the best you can hope for is a church record as Statutory registration began later in Ireland than the rest of the U.K.

Thank you for the advise and links to the various websites. we will look these up this evening and let you know how we get on. She already has the information related to children and parents in the census records, but nothing in terms of 1. marriage certificate for the parents 2. the children's birth certificates 3. Shipping/immigration and migration records. The information she has was from the death information and had to work backwards to trace their journey, but cannot find the marriage or birth certificates. Familysearch gave us the same records she already located on Ancestry. I appreciate the time and effort taken to assist us!!!

I note that Thomas Edward and Frankland were apparently born in Raleigh, Ontaior, but George says he was born in Pennsylvania.
Both US and Canadian censuses tend to have date of immigration shown.
Have you tried Family Search for US censuses??
Find Canadian censuses here .............
http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/genealogy/Pages/introduction.aspx
Click on Data Bases, then on Censuses
On the 1891 Census, Frankland (shown as Frank) says he was born in Ireland, but gives no date as to when he arrived in Canada.
However, in 1901 Frank says he was born in Ontario in 1854, and naturally doesn't therefore give the date of immigration!
In 1901, Thomas and Martha (transcribed as Mertha) are living with their son Thomas E, and say they immigrated into Canada in 1844. Thomas says he was born in Ireland, and Martha in Wales on Oct 31 1823. Thomas E is shown as Widower.
There will be problems finding when they arrived in North America.
There are records ............... but patchy.
For the US ..........
http://www.castlegarden.org/
says it has eleven million records of immigrants who arrived at the Port of New York from 1820 - 1892.
TBH ......... I've never found any of mine!!
https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/
The Ellis Island site has excellent records from 1892 to after 1924. So late for your guys.
For Canada ............ try searching on Family Search and also look at that link I gave you above for Canadian censuses.

The records posted say where the sons were born - the records you want may not be online, you may have to enquire as to whether there were birth records for those places at that time.
When and where was the oldest child born - may give a clue as to approx. when the parents were married.

Hello, thanks for the info. She has this information however, she cannot move find any records on his birth or his parents and nothing that records his marriage, travel to North America or the birth of their children. Already looked on familysearch. It certainly is a mystery.

Hello everyone, I am trying to help my friend locate any information on these 2 people. Thomas Doey born Ireland 1816? and Martha Edmonds born Wales 1823? They had 3 children in the US and then immigrated to Ontario, Canada where they had 4 more children. My friend needs to locate the marriage certificate for this couple and the birth certificates for all the children to cross reference to her family tree. She is unable to find shipping records related to their journey to North America. I would appreciate any leads or records to help her and her family develop their family tree.
