Hi, On a marriage cert, (on Ancestry) Bride Christiana HASTINGS, Bridegroom William BELL Sept 1858 in Taunton. The father of the bride is Frederick Hastings, Traveller.?? Could someone check that info correct please.
William died and Christiana married again in Newcastle to a William Carr LILBURN, Dec 1870 under the name Christiana Hastings BELL. But her father is listed as a CHARLES.?? I have sent for the 2nd wedding cert today as I can't see the cert, just the info. on Ancestry.
If Frederick was a traveller are there any good sites to find info.? Thank you Sally

Note that Traveller could also mean Travelling Salesman, a very common occupation .........
........I don't believe Traveller was used back then for gypsies.

Hubby's grandfather was a traveller but he was a salesman for tobacco and fancy goods for his father's business
They weren't gypsies

Good Morning Sylvia, Dear and Shirley, I must say it did cross my mind why she would put traveller as a job. !!!! I will wait for the second marriage cert to see what her father is listed as. Regards Sally

Traveller in those days was a salesman who travelled around the country - the full title was 'Commercial traveller' or 'Travelling salesman'
What people now call 'travellers' would have been 'gipsies' then - which certainly wasn't classed as an occupation

Her birthplace is recorded as Westwick, Norfolk, on 1851 census.
Have you looked for a baptism?
EDIT
Can't see any sign of her before 1851 on any website

As she gave a different forename for her 'father' on that one, I fear it will not be of much help - but I hope that I'm wrong!

Could you give us ALL the details from that first wedding cert please from 1858, including all occupations, addresses and also details of witnesses.
Perhaps we can try coming from a different angle?
Thanks,
Dea x
