The parents of Elizabeth Mary Green, born 18 September 1926 West Park Hospital, died 4 April 2018 Oldham, are named on her birth certificate as Edith Violet Green, silk finisher, of 49 Lower House, Bollington, and father is named as Arthur Roberts of 130 Great King Street, Macclesfield. Motor car driver. Birth registed in Macclesfield on 29 October 1926.

The Ancestry tree referred to is correct - Edith/Ethel Violet Green (Edith on Elizabeth’s birth certificate, Ethel on subsequent records) had two further children, different fathers. She is on the 1939 register under the surname of Higgins, with her widowed mother and two children, in Bollington.

She did not marry Arthur, and is not the Elsie Green mentioned anove.

His baptism is not his DOB. Can't look for him using that date.

Arthur had numerous siblings - perhaps their descendants can help

The son of Arthur and Elsie Roberts, Gordon J., emigrated much later to the USA and died there. He did not die in infancy. Arthur's wife, Elsie, continued to live in the Stoke on Trent area until her death in 1980. It is Gordon's daughter in the USA that I am trying to help. She knew nothing about her grandfather, Arthur, as he left her grandmother shortly after their marriage . I have their marriage cert. which states that in 1927 he was a domestic Chauffeur, born Macclesfield in 1901(Dec.)

The death for Elsie as given on that tree will be the one you posted earlier, Erika - Elsie Roberts, in Staffordshire Moorlands reg district.

DOB matching the 1939 record posted by Andy.
There was a closed record with her.

Another Gordon J Roberts was born in Stoke in 3rd qr 1926. (The one PH posted by mistake earlier - mms Drew)

So the 1927 infant death could be him, and not Elsie & Arthur's son.

What we are asking is whether you have traced his wife AFTER the marriage.

Unfortunately, Arthur has a very common name, and not even any middle initials to help - unless he acquired one later, as Elsie seems to have done.

I don't see any obvious entry for him in the 1939 register, at least not with DOB in the likely range, and with an occupation anything to do with driving - though of course he could have changed occupation.

There are a number of possible deaths - but we don't know where he might have been living.

Or he may have emigrated, or joined the army.

Do you have his birth cert, to find out his exact DOB?

The father of Elsie May Green is definitely named Arthur. Her mother is Agnes. I have the "Green" side of the family records, but am keen to know what happened to Arthur Roberts after he left Elsie and their son, Gordon J.

I'm asking because, as Erika has pointed out, Elsie Green 1903 Wellington has no middle name in her birth record, nor in 1911 census, nor in 1939 register.

I'm sure it's something you'll have checked, but just so we know, does Elsie May's marriage cert say her father was Arthur Green?
