Arthur is the son of William James and Martha Jane Roberts.
In May 1927 he married Elsie May Green (Civil marriage, Stoke on trent). Disappeared shortly afterwards. His marriage cert. gives his occupation as "Domestic Chauffeur" and his address in 1927 is 130 Great King Street, Macclesfield, Cheshire. He is at this address with his parents and brother Stanley from Oct 1927-Oct1928. The following Electoral Register shows he is no longer there. His mother had died in Sept 1928.
He is possibly on the family tree of "Joan", whom I have contacted but not as yet had any reply.
Any information welcomed.

How old was she? Who was her father?

A tree on Ancestry, owner Joan Pendlebury Green, is very confusing. It says that Arthur Roberts married Ethel Violet Green and had daughter Elizabeth Mary Green (1926-2018).
It also says that Ethel Violet married a Pendlebury and had daughter Joan Pendlebury Green (1934-1990).
It also says that she married John Michael Higgins and had son Peter John Higgins (1937-)

Ancestry trees are notoriously unreliable.

The names and dates above don’t make sense to me - perhaps I’m missing something!

No record on freebmd of the supposed marriage

And the poster actually has the cert of the marriage to Elsie

I'm asking because, as Erika has pointed out, Elsie Green 1903 Wellington has no middle name in her birth record, nor in 1911 census, nor in 1939 register.

I'm sure it's something you'll have checked, but just so we know, does Elsie May's marriage cert say her father was Arthur Green?

The father of Elsie May Green is definitely named Arthur. Her mother is Agnes. I have the "Green" side of the family records, but am keen to know what happened to Arthur Roberts after he left Elsie and their son, Gordon J.

Unfortunately, Arthur has a very common name, and not even any middle initials to help - unless he acquired one later, as Elsie seems to have done.

I don't see any obvious entry for him in the 1939 register, at least not with DOB in the likely range, and with an occupation anything to do with driving - though of course he could have changed occupation.

There are a number of possible deaths - but we don't know where he might have been living.

Or he may have emigrated, or joined the army.

Do you have his birth cert, to find out his exact DOB?

The son died - perhaps that's what caused Arthur to leave...............

What we are asking is whether you have traced his wife AFTER the marriage.

Another Gordon J Roberts was born in Stoke in 3rd qr 1926. (The one PH posted by mistake earlier - mms Drew)

So the 1927 infant death could be him, and not Elsie & Arthur's son.

The death for Elsie as given on that tree will be the one you posted earlier, Erika - Elsie Roberts, in Staffordshire Moorlands reg district.

There was a closed record with her.

The son of Arthur and Elsie Roberts, Gordon J., emigrated much later to the USA and died there. He did not die in infancy. Arthur's wife, Elsie, continued to live in the Stoke on Trent area until her death in 1980. It is Gordon's daughter in the USA that I am trying to help. She knew nothing about her grandfather, Arthur, as he left her grandmother shortly after their marriage . I have their marriage cert. which states that in 1927 he was a domestic Chauffeur, born Macclesfield in 1901(Dec.)
