DET- look at the institutions section on FMP. William Charles was possibly using the name Franks

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 26 Jun 2018 09:52

Yes, article was FMP.

I'll see if I can find any of them in 1901 (and William Charles in 1911)

- William Charles got 4 months hard labour on July 1910- so he was likely a free man by the time of the census (as long as he was good!)

Thank's Sylvia, that does help.

Austin - the newspaper article is a brilliant find! Was it on FMP?

I'd seen the census before logging off and thought that might be relevant. Child Henry could well be a Lewis rather than a Blake!
I've a lot of deleting to do.

As we're now more of less happy with Emily's 1911, is it possible to find them in 1901? Was William Charles in prison for the 1911?

Illustrated Police News 16 July 1910

STRATFORD
A BRUTAL ASSAULT
William Charles Blake, 33, of City Road, Shoreditch, was charged with assaulting his wife Emma. He was further charged with assaulting William Lewis, a French polisher of Cassiobury Road, Walthamstow.

It seems that some ten years ago Mrs Blake was seperated from her husband on the grounds of cruelty, and for the last 7 years had been living with Lewis...

The prisoner pleaded that he went to the house to see his children and finding Lewis with his wife he got wild...

The Bench reminded the prisoner that he had not troubled about his children in many years and it was clear he did not want to see them...

There are several family trees on ancestry but they all seem to have the confusion, if such it be, with the children Caroline, Charles etc.

but we do have the advantage of being able to use the GRO Index.

I can't explain it!

Record Type: Marriage
Birth Date: abt 1876
Marriage Date: 4 Apr 1897
Marriage Place: St Mary, Hoxton, Hackney, England
Father: William Blake
Spouse: Emily Louisa Franke

All details for his father, residence etc are correct. I'm confident about this.

Then it all goes wrong.
I'd assumed that the 1911 was the same family

Name: William Blake
Age in 1911: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1878
Relation to Head: Head
Gender: Male
Birth Place: London, United Kingdom
Civil Parish: Lambeth
County/Island: London

Occupation: ROAD SWEEPER

Piece: 1993
Household Members:

However, the children's mmn is Coster as per GRO.
That matches with this marriage

Blake William Lambeth 1d 684
Coster Emily Lambeth 1d 684

They had a number of later children, the youngest being
Births Mar 1919 (>99%)

So - where did William Charles &/or Emily Louisa (Franke) go?
Emily's dob from baptism 12 May 1876
William's birth reg
