Yes I think you are right Emily will be the invalid and most probably Dorothy the daughter is the helper in the home because she has no occupation.
Thank you

Looking back on this post, I noticed that in the 1881 census I posted ( 16 Jun 2018 22:01) for William Hollis and Emily MS Meredith, there is this young boy.
John G Carbury Grand Son Single Male 3 1878 Blackwell, Derbyshire, England - Transcription
This is his birth
CARBERY, JOHN GEORGE HOLLIS Order GRO Reference: 1877 D Quarter in MANSFIELD Volume 07B Page 64
and sadly, he dies 3rd qtr 1881. But these look to be his parents James and Emma Carberry who are witnesses to the marriage of William Hollis and Mary Ann Green which means William and Emma were siblings.
Marriages Mar 1877 (>99%) BLOWER William Henry Mansfield 7b 93 >>CARBERRY James Mansfield 7b 93 >>Hollis Emma Mansfield 7b 93 Robinson Elizabeth Mansfield 7b 93
His parents in 1881 with new baby, Charles Edmund, who was born beginning of 1881 so maybe John G was sent to his grandparents for a wee while.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates (apologies cut the url off too early before)
Register or Login - Register initially and then you can just login each time you use.
you can only look for births and deaths using this site but you will get mmn from Q3 1837 to1917 when this site ends at present and age at death Q3 1837 - 1957 Only problem is the site gives age at death in years BUT it can't distinguish weeks/months so if you know a child died at 2 months old it would show as 2 years!
You can order birth and death certificates through the site at a reduced cost of £6 if you're happy with a pdf version to download yourself.
For bmd's Q3 1837 to c 1970's use https://www.freebmd.org.uk/search
gives mmn fro Q3 1911 and age at death from c1866

So presumably Pitkin is the first marriage and Knights the second
Can I ask how you use the GRO site.
I went onto the main page then on the right hand side to "Know your Ancestor better" and then followed the link to the FreeBMD site. I'm sorry this is new to me and I'm not that brilliant with technology
Thank you

Sorry I've not been back on today,
Wow that's a brilliant amount of information. I only had some of the children's names but no partners information. other than Rachel Hollis (my grandmother) marrying Arthur Riley. My mum only talked about her mum having one sister Emily so there's not much to go on there. I would appreciate any information on the children.
I notice that John Hollis was a widower is there anything on his first marriage,
I will look on the GRO site too. Thank you

Using the GRO site posted for births and deaths to find the other 4 children born - all Mansfield RD there are 8 names listed over the census' posted, Emily 1880, John 1884, James 1886, Charles Hy 1888, Frank (Francis Edwin) 1890, Ada Mary Ann 1892, Rachel 1896, Lydia 1901
so 4 to find
Joseph 1894 died 1895 aged 0 Lucy Ellen b 1898 died 1899 aged 1 Owen b 1899 died 1899 aged 0
EDIT - there is also this one - located because he was baptised in 1882. His birth was registered mmn Green
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: Order: HOLLIS, ROBERT GREEN Order GRO Reference: 1882 J Quarter in MANSFIELD Volume 07B Page 57 Order
Name: Age at Death (in years): Order: HOLLIS, ROBERT 2 Order GRO Reference: 1884 J Quarter in MANSFIELD Volume 07B Page 36
and birth registered Liddie 1901 death as Lydia 1902 aged 0 (straddles a census )
That would make the 12 births and 5 deaths
MMN given as Green for George Wm - see below and Robert (she'd been born and married as Green) but for the rest she used Ball which is the name she had always been known as.
My theory is there was another birth (actually the first) as the first child showing on census is Emily b 1880, so a bit of a gap from the marriage in 3/1877 -
there is this birth George William Hollis mmn Green 1878 died 1880 as George William Ball EDIT - Yes they baptised a Geo. Wm in Tibshelf 7/6/1878
(James and Emma Carberry, witnesses at the wedding, also had a child baptised a month later)
So actually 13 births and 6 deaths ?

View Derbyshire, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1916
Name: Mary Ann Green Baptism Date: 16 May 1858 Baptism Place: South Normanton, Derbyshire, England Search Photos: Search for 'South Normanton' in the UK City, Town and Village Photos collection Phillimore Ecclesiastical Parish Map: View this parish Mother: Rachel Green
Original - Parents names - Rachel Green - no Father named under Trade or Profession column has Single Woman (one of the nicer terms to be found given the circumstances!)
So Mary Ann born as Green, so that was who she married as.
Given the short time between marriage and her birth Owen may well have been the Father but you can't tell for sure if he's not named on the BC. If he was her Father though I would have thought she would have named him on the MC unless she felt it may have opened up a can of worms?? But then she used Ball as her maiden name for the children's births !
