Re-visiting this search. I think I may have found a connection.
On Thomas Henry's Marriage Cert. he states his father is Charles Povey (Deceased). Much searching has been gone into to find Thomas Henry's Birth but it seems the years we need as stated on the 1880 Census have been lost or destroyed. I now think I have found Thomas H father thus:
First Name Charles Last Name Povey Birth Year 1840 Age 11 Birth Place Ireland Birth Town Birth County Dublin Relationship To Head of Household Pauper Gender Male Occupation In The School Street Parish Brighthelmstone City County Sussex Division Of County Eastern Division Ecclesiastical District Enumeration District Hamlet House Name House Number Parliamentary Borough Municipal Ward Registration District Brighton Category Census, Land & Surveys Record set 1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Collections from Great Britain, England Folio 1057 Page 22 Piece Number 1645 Source Archive Reference HO107
Bearing in mind Charles Povey's birth being Dublin and he being in Brighton Sussex the country connection for this line of Povey is there any way I can research back to Charles Birth in Dublin and how he came to be in "The School" a pauper in Brighton.
Any pointers would be appreciated. Many thanks.
Ru
Previous thread Ref: (cannot locate this)
NOTE; Now think this is NOT related to my family of Povey, but subsequent help from members has given me further leads and I am revisiting some old ground using this new information. Thank you all will return to thread once I have sorted all information. Ru

Just did not want helpers to go through the search again, but need to get onto the Charles Povey Dublin birth and family from this young man who was in Brighton, Sussex aged 11 at a School and a pauper. Where were his parents, what happened for him to be a young boy in England?

Neither irishgenealogy.ie, nor Ancestry have any birth record for a Charles Povey c1840 in Dublin - or anywhere in Ireland, as far as I can see.

Oh thank you so much for looking. I would not know where to search. Of course, I am only going by information on the 1851 Census who places Charles Povey at the school in Brighton, Sussex and the details of birth are just that, Dublin, Ireland.
There is no confirmation there is a connection to the family only his name, birthdate would match any father of Thomas Henry whose birth is elusive who is my great, great grandfather. Oh to get a match to Thomas H Povey!!
Thanks so much for taking the time to look. It is appreciated. Ru

Thomas was 22 in March 1880, when he married, so probably born 1857
Also, he states that his deceased father, Charles Thomas Povey was a House Painter, as he is himself
Have you looked for a death for the 'father'?

The 1855 birth and baptism were posted on the other thread, and Ru was happy at that time that they were the correct ones - although the father Thomas was stated to be a carpenter and builder.

Firstly, thanks to you all for your input. I will try and deal with replies in order if you can follow me. Kucinta: I think this is interesting and when talking Ireland we have to have our wits about us. Is there any connection to Charles Povey b. 1840 who then came to England - Brighton Sussex? Povey names are common. However, will have a look at the names and see if there is any connection.
ArgyllGran: I think this most interesting - have never looked for the deliberate mistake -DOVEY and the continued error as the birth certificate mentioned Eton was sent for and I think discounted - not sure now if I have kept the it, but will get the files out. Bit of a hoarder, but with quakes we have had a clear out. So it seems that was the one after all as years and names fit, as does the trade of father and son. Poor Thomas Henry died young after fathering my grandfather Thomas Charles Povey as set out in 1881 Census. Could never find Thomas Henry but with the incorrect spelling, all makes sense. Thank you will have another look. I will be Over the Moon if its correct. Not sure when the correction was made. ErikaH: You are on the right track and I did search and search for the father, but it is like everything else without confirmation (accuracy) I felt insecure in making it a record. Again will now go back and see what is there in my files. I think we are getting there. think you have helped in the past. Safc: This is a huge find as it shows error corrections made. It shows on the 1881 Census that Thomas Henry was born Brighton Sussex. This seems like a red herring and probably the reason I have discounted birth Certs sent for and connections to Eton. Who is Jonquil West? Just a person who spots an error? Thomas Henry Povey Eton birth 1855 3a 321 rings a bell and I think it is the cert. I sent for and discounted. Hope not. Thank you all so very, very much - having put this to bed and starting on my end of year accounts, came across some unfiled paperwork on the Pauper bit for Charles Povey - its started me off again.
Will get back to you - but please remember I am very grateful for your time and input despite it going over old ,ground. Kind regards, with hope the sun is shining for you now as it rains and is cold in NZ Ru

If the age given for Elizabeth Povey in 1871 census is correct, then she can't be Thomas's mother - she would only have been 13 when he was born. She must be Charles's second wife, in which case the 1851 marriage can't be correct.
(Unless Charles had previously married another Elizabeth.)
The big gap between Thomas and May would also account for that - although of course there might have been other children who had died.

EDIT: already posted by Chris on other thread.
Maybe Thomas and Eliza Povey (nee Wildin) in 1851 . Thomas's occupation does fit with Charles's in 1871, but birthplace is different:
Eliza Povey in the 1851 England Census Name: Eliza Povey Age: 27 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1824 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: Thomas Povey Gender: Female Where born: St Andrews, London, England (not Portsea as in 1871 - EDIT: sorry, I meant Thomas, not Eliza) Civil Parish: St Giles Cripplegate Ecclesiastical parish: St Bartholomew County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: East London Sub-registration district: Cripplegate ED, institution, or vessel: 1b Neighbors: Household schedule number: 80 Piece: 1525 Folio: 43 Page Number: 12 Household Members: Name Age Thomas Povey 25 - book edge gilder Eliza Povey 27 - St Andrews, London

Just a possibility for Charles Thomas's death ??
We know he died between 1871 and 1881.
Deaths Mar 1877 (>99%) POVEY Thomas 50 Kensington 1a 44
His widow Elizabeth (the second wife ) in 1881:
Elizabeth Powey in the 1881 England Census Name: Elizabeth Powey Age: 37 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1844 Relationship to Head: Head Gender: Female Where born: Ripon, Yorkshire, England Civil Parish: Kensington County/Island: London Country: England Street address: 3 Holland Place Marital Status: Widow Education: Employment status: View image Occupation: Laundress Registration district: Kensington Sub registration district: Kensington Town ED, institution, or vessel: 16b Neighbors: Piece: 27 Folio: 37 Page Number: 67 Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Powey 37 Mary Powey 11 - Kensington Charles Powey 9 - Kensington
EDIT
And yet, here's Charles T apparently at 3 Holland Place in 1887. Somebody forgot to update the ER ??
Charles Thomas Povey in the London, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1965 Name: Charles Thomas Povey Year: 1887 County or Borough: Kensington and Chelsea Ward or Division/Constituency: Kensington Street address: 3 Holland place Reference Number: MR/PER/B/019
He's also listed there in 1875.
In 1876 and 1878 there's a Charles Thomas Povey at 55 Abbingdon Road, Kensington & Chelsea - possibly him.

Thank you for this, but as you can see we are getting down to it again. Now the above Charles Thomas Povey cannot be correct if Thomas Henry's marriage to my great grandmother Eleanor Daniels is correct. I have her marriage to Thomas H and Thomas H death certificate - I know this to be true due to the Goodwin connection which I have confirmed by my own mother. His father is down as deceased on his marriage cert. Thomas Henry died young 26 years.
Still going to look out all the documents and research notes on this. Thank you again Ru
