Glyn Report 29 Mar 2018 10:43

Hi everyone, can anyone help me please?
I thought I had the details correct for the marriage of William Alfred Blackey ( born 1808) to Frances Dimelow (born 1811).
However I don’t. They were married around 1829. On the 1841 census it says she came from Wales.
So it’s definitely Frances but I don’t know her surname, and I’ve hunted without any results to find a record of their marriage. Likely it will be Liverpool/ Lancashire where William lived but I’m not certain. I don’t think it’s Dimelow as that family are from Manchester, and their daughter Frances is too young to be Williams wife in view of the ages of their children
Please can anyone find their marriage record?
Thanks
Glyn

Just to add to the confusion on Find a grave Frances is buried in Pauatahanui burial ground, Wellington, NZ as is William, which is correct. It lists her name as being Frances Dimelow Blackey!!
However, the “parents” I thought were hers are from Manchester, not Wales, ( John Dimelow and Frances Mills) and their daughter Frances was born 1822, and my ancestor had children from 1830 onwards, so too young to be her.
I hope that hasn’t made the issue more confused!!!!

The children's baptsims are on familysearch - unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any sign of the marriage of William and Frances, and the children's births weren't registered.

So the 1851 census giving her birthplace as Wales would seem to be inaccurate

Could have been born Wales - Chester is just about on the English/Welsh border, may have been the nearest place for baptism ???

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Mar 2018 18:08

FWIW .........

.......... OH was born in Wales, parents lived in Chester. :-D

His Mother went to a nursing home 10 miles away, just over the border. The border has since moved and he now would have been born in England.

That border has always been somewhat "fluid".

OH's mother was Welsh, but that was not the reason he was born in Wales ........... the nursing home was the closest one that she could go to.

Glyn ............

registration of births, marriages and deaths began on July 1 1837.

Before that date, all you can get will be the Parish Register entry.

Those are slowly being digitised, otherwise you would have to find out where the relevant Parish Register is now kept, find out if you can visit, ad then copy out the entry.

Sources online for Parish entries are the Mormon site, Family Search (records only, not the user submitted entries!); FreeReg, Online Parish Clerks sites (not every county covered), and the subscription sites Ancestry, and FindMyPast

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list

You have to sign up with Family Search, but it is free to do so and seems safe

you might try this one as well for Cheshire ...
