I Have marriage cert for Philip Sydney Greenhill age 51 to Barbara Anne Jones 41 on 28 Jan 1972. She was a spinster and his marriage was dissolved. Barbara has father CYRIL JONES retd regional manager of Cadburys.
Their address is given as 41 The Drive, Colletts Green (Powick?) Married Malvern district. The witnesses were D & J Macmillan.
Not a great deal of help I think. Perhaps with the fathers christian name we can discount some families. Can you try please.

"At the outbreak of war In September 1939 a massive administrative task was underway: the taking of the 1939 Register, one of the most important British documents of the twentieth century.
Having issued forms to more than 41 million people, the enumerators were charged with the task of visiting every household in Great Britain and Northern Ireland to collect the names, addresses, martial statuses and other key details of every civilian in the country, issuing identity cards on the spot.
The 1939 Register, then, represents one of the most important documents in 20th century Britain. The information it contains not only helped toward the war effort, it was also used in the founding of the NHS.
In addition, the 1931 census was destroyed during an air raid on London and the 1941 census was never taken. The 1939 Register, released online by Findmypast in partnership with The National Archives, is therefore the only surviving overview of the civil population of England and Wales spanning the period 1921-1951. It bridges a census gap that risked losing an entire generation, and is a fascinating resource for anyone interested in understanding 20th century Britain and its people".

At the outbreak of war In September 1939 a massive administrative task was underway: the taking of the 1939 Register, one of the most important British documents of the twentieth century.
In December 1938 it was announced in the House of Commons that in the event of war, a National Register would be taken that listed the personal details of every civilian in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This Register was to be a critical tool in coordinating the war effort at home. It would be used to issue identity cards, organise rationing and more.

Ian and Ann ..mother Ann Cant (I think) On IOW during WW2 lived with Philip as his wife.Philip was in the army unti lwell after the war.Not divorced from Eileen {my mother) Ann and Ian were not aware of this until Philips death.(very upset) The mother was sickly and died early and that is why they had Barbara to look after the household. Eileen did the same living with Bradney Banks unmarried..I think she changed her name by deedpol.
I will post when I get the marriage cert.

There was a marriage in 1935 to Eileen Marsden, which produced a daughter.
Perhaps the second relationship wasn't actually legalised - there was a divorce from the former Miss Marsden at some stage, but no idea when
From an earlier post in the thread..............
.................who he finally married later in life after divorced from his first wife Eileen Marsden.

As a matter of interest, who was the mother of Ann and Ian?
I am not seeing a marriage for Philip between 1935---1972
Edit: Just found Ann and Ian's birth registrations.
I am not seeing a marriage that matches the MMN though.
If i have the correct Ian.....He is on the 2014 ER living in Birmingham.

There is no birth record for Barbara A Jones with MMN Williams to fit the year of birth recorded on the woman's death entry
When you get the copy of the marriage cert, tell us what it says, and we'll go from there
At present, there is no way of knowing who Barbara actually was - you can't assume she was a spinster when she moved in to look after the children. She could just as easily have been a widow.

I thought Barbara was the second child of Tudor and Gladys Jones..what is the reason for the record to be closed in 1939...she would have been about 10? I have ordered a marriage cert for Philip and Barbara so will see what that shows. Thanks for those records .
