I would say definitely not divorced - simply not enough time between marriages
One possibility is annulment.............
It would be interesting to see how William Clarke described himself when he re-married

I've searched high and low and can't find the marriage to William Charles Vine Clark(e) in 1903-4.
Can someone post it, please? I must be missing something.
I can see the Banns notice, but no sign of registration of a marriage.
William Charles Vine Clarke in the Dorset, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1813-1921 Name: William Charles Vine Clarke Gender: Male Marriage Date: 15 Nov 1903 (no, this is 1st calling of banns) Marriage Place: Melcombe Regis St John, Dorset, England Spouse: Florence Isabell Herridge
William Charles Vine Clarke in the Dorset, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1813-1921 Name: William Charles Vine Clarke Gender: Male Marriage Date: 15 Nov 1903 Marriage Place: West Fordington, Dorset, England Spouse: Florence Isobel Herridge
William Charles Vine Clarke in the England, Select Dorset Church of England Parish Registers, 1538-1999 Name: William Charles Vine Clarke Gender: Male Marital Status: Single Event Type: Marriage Marriage Date: 29 Nov 1903 ( no, this is 3rd calling of bans) Marriage Place: Melcombe-Regis, Dorset, England Father: Mother: Spouse: Florence Isabel Herridge
15th November was the date of the first calling of the banns. Second and third callings were on 22 and 29 November.
The marriage would have been AFTER 29th November - but I see no sign of it. Perhaps they called the wedding off ??
Or am I just not seeing it?

Oh, well done Argyll Gran!!!
The whole mystery solved in one fell swoop
We all took it for granted that the info helina posted about a marriage was accurate, and didn't think to check.
So, nobody lied to the vicar - what a relief. LOL!
