Charles's death was easy to spot because the basic info (without looking at the actual cert) on SP shows his mother's maiden name: |

Thanks - what I cannot work out is that their alleged sibling (my Charles McEwan) had his DC with themes of the parents - but I cannot find any DC for these (that i can see). It could be they died early I suppose but even then would there have been a church record given they took the time dutifully to get a baptism. |

Hi All - I am back on the grid after two years - back searching for McEwan. It's a long story but i semi retired but went back into things. Lockdown has given me some time. I am looking to try and (methodically) try to track down if any of the 5 Charles Mcewan and Bridget Semple Children survived. Thomas McEwan (who i originally thought was a farmer in in Ireland) was in fact a tinker going from Edinburgh to Glasgow etc. |

Hi Christopher, I am no expert but I live near Glasgow and hope next week to go to the Mitchell library and can access SP as many times as I like, Scottish certs are brilliant compared to English certs, eg on a BC it tells you usually MMN, date of marriage, on DC it tells you all previous names which is great when someone has married 3 or 4 times, so if you send me names of a few you want to know about I will look, if you wanted a copy of a cert for your records then the last time I was there it was 50p. |

Both FMP and Ancestry offer a free 14-day trial period, so you can see what each has, and decide which one you want to join. |

If the informant knew the details, this should name Charlotte's parents. |

Probably nothing to do with finding the 1st wife of Thomas Nimmo, but was the Charlotte Hardie he married in 1851 with the McEwan 1841 and 1851. |
