Hello
I'm looking for information on a James Brennan, who married Selena(Selema) Mathers, nee Best at St Annes Cathedral, Cookridge Street, Leeds in 1921.
I believe they had 1 child, Yvonne Brennan, b1921.
I have found a death in Leeds South in 1936, which may be the same James Brennan, and gives age at death as 59.
I am not sure when or where James was born.
I may have been involved in the pub trade.
I have found details and records for Selena, but I'm really struggling with James.
Any help is gratefully received, thank you.

I think this may be his death:
James Brennan 59 Jun Qtr 1936 Leeds South, Yorkshire West Riding, England
Selema and Yvonne appear together on the 1939 census, but James isn't with them, so it's likely that he died before this date.

I don't have the marriage certificate.
I got the marriage details using freebmd.org.uk and http://yorkshirebmd.org.uk.
But they don't include father's name, or witness info etc.

I've also found a picture of a Leeds Pub- The Yorkshire Hussar which is dated 1901, and has a sign which says 'James Brennan, The Yorkshire Hussar, Ales, Wines and Spirits'.
Selema's family has many landlords and ladies in it, so I thought this might be the James Brennan that she married. But I can't find the 1901 or 1911 census for the pub.
The Yorkshire Hussar was on York Street Leeds, and backed on to Brussels Street.

From closedpubs.co.uk
The Yorkshire Hussar was situated at 46 Eastgate. This pub was later used as Hoagys Bar, which in turn has also closed.
so according to this site the pub was not on York Street.

The Yorkshire Hussar on Eastgate was built after 1930, so was not the same pub.
As it used the same name, it seems likely that the York Street pub had closed.

86 York Street, Leeds, was the 'Yorkshire Hussar' Public House, from a newspaper snippet 1878, there 1881 was William H Whitelock (Publican)
At 86, for 1901 was Alfred Carr (Publican)
Chris :)
Edits (seems William Henry Whitelock was son of John Lupton Whitehead, of Turk's Head, Briggate, accoding to google search)

Selina Mathers nee Best her mum was Mary Ann Whitelock born @ 1854 sister to William Henry Whitelock. So it looks likely that is the correct James Brennan.

Thanks!
I thought it must be him, because of the Whitelock's connection, the family seem to have run most of the pubs in Leeds. :)
I'm trying to find out about James prior to his marriage to Selema. I was hoping he might be at the Yorkshire Hussar in the 1901 or 1911 census', but I can't find the records. :-D
