Been trying to get my head around it all, please correct me if not right. So a Jane Rimmer gave birth to a daughter Ellen Rimmer, out of wedlock , this Emma married a Lawrence Gardner, they had a daughter Emma Gardner and she possibly had a son John Thomas out of wedlock at the age of 13 yrs of age. There was no Jane Rimmer with the Rimmer family in 1851 but Emma ,granddaughter age 2 was.. I will try GRO. BMD and see what crops up

There are 5 Ellen Rimmers from 1837 to 1840 born in Ormskirk and non of them have the name Rimmer as mother , so that's confusing

And there were no penalties for not registering births until 1875 - which meant that many people didn't bother - especially if the child was illegitimate

The one record which is eluding me is a marriage between John Mordaunt and Jane. It may be that there simply wasn't one!

Ellen Gardner was born in 1866 - so she was 22 when the child John was born. No indication in my research that he had a second forename

Erika. Sorry about the mix up of names, I appreciate your time in looking up for me, I am 80 now so not on the ball all the time when trying to do so many families at the same time. I had found. a John Thomas Gardner on Gro , his mother down as Jane unmarried and he was born in Ormskirk in the Workhouse so maybe that 's where the name Thomas came in. I have studied all you have sent and it looks like you have found him. Regarding John Mordaunt b 1821 I have found no marriage of him to a Jane Rimmer but found one to an Alice Pye do you think that could be a 1st marriage.

John. I'm not far off 80 myself, so I do understand......lol!

I think this is John Mordaunt's death, but it doesn't help with his marriage.

So Alice Pye can be ruled out, obviously a different John Mordaunt.. As you stated Erika it looks like John and Jane never married. Think I must accept it as that, thank you so much for your help. Carry on doing the good work, it's keeping you young ....lol
