Find Ancestors

Hi all I am trying to find my fathers family tree,he was born in 1946 47? in Bridge Kent his name was Terry J Burford he unfortunately took his own life in 1987 when I was a teenager and I am trying to find a little out about his side of the family as I know nothing of them. I am very new to family research and I am a standard member here so I suppose my resources are limited? can anyone help find a tree ? I would be so grateful.

I have just discovered his Mothers Maiden name was Ivy Hill I know her husband must have been Burford but Christian name I do not know

Terry John Burford born 05.09.1949 in Devon..married Phyllis Janice Burford in 1969...on the marriage record her maiden name was O'Rourke and her mother's maiden name was Stevens..............how we doing???
EDIT..I see that Bridge is in fact in Kent..near Canterbury..yet the marriage entry in BMD's definitely gives "Bridge.Devon Cornwall Scilly"..would be interesting to see what the actual marriage cert, shows.....

Yes that's correct Janice Orourke was my mother, I thought my father Terry Burford was born in Bridge Kent though Derek.

That looks likely Derek given Shelly's dob etc

Shelly, the Terry born Kent was to these parents probably and had siblings, are you just thinking this might be right based on location?

Yesmy Fathers Mother was Ivy Hill I have a feeling I have heard the name Albert before thinking back to my childhood, I know my dad's siblings are Jean and Brian, I have tried asking them to help but they don't seem to want to give me any information regarding my father,I think him committing suicide broke the family apart.

The marriage cert for your father and mother should confirm Albert E Burford as his father.

They are actually in the same household in 1939 before their marriage

Hi Shelley...the Birth in Bridge Kent..is clearly right..as is the ref number given by Nyx...but somewhere along the line there is a mistake..since the BMD printout gives the "inferred" count as devon Cornwall and Scylly..and i bet that the Birth certificate says the same...........which i admit is clearly a mistake......
..and don't worry about being a novice..we all were once!..and got to be knowledgeable through help from others.
I wonder if you can get back a little bit further..because one generation might get you back to the 1911 Census..then we can really go to town..I know that FindMyPast has the 1939 Census but that is severely limited and will not divulge any info mentionaing possibly living people.........I'm going to chase up the O'Rourkes. the Stevens and the Hill....wish me luck!!

Sadly it looks likely that Ivy M Burford died 2012, that is the last date she appears on erolls, and there is a probate record for a matching name 2012 on Find a Will

Yes, that is my father, birth and death are correct, and I always thought he was born in Bridge so I am guessing there was a mistake somewhere along the line and that Bridge would be correct.
