sorry, Thomas Sanders was named as father on Mary Sanders Baptism october 1774.She would have been 25 when she married Joseph in 1800. Joseph was 61 when he died in 1842 so must have been born around 1780/81 making him around 20 at marriage.Did they round up ages on census..Mary was 60 on 1841 census and 73 on 1851 and the only check on Joseph is the 1841 where he is also 60..presumably they took this for his death in 1842 and said he was 61. |

trouble is the 1841 census only says he was not born in the county and maariage ref does not help as to his place of birth |

Thank you.that is a great start.They move about a lot. I wonder what he did for a living before Tenterden. Perhaps he was always a printer and his son Joseph followed him into the trade. sonya |

Thank tou all. I would still like to know the ancestors of Joseph Exall Snr and his place of birth and occupation before he arrived in Tenterden..there is a gap from his marriage in 1800 to arrival in Tenterden around 1810 |

Thank you Margaret This Joseph Exall is the son of Joseph and Mary from Portsea. He was a printer and vestry clerk..caught forging promisory notes 1847 ended up in van diemens land. Did well in New Zealand |

There are a lot of interesting newspaper articles about Joseph Exall. It would appear he was Vestry clerk and said he lived in the parish since 1810. |
