Find Ancestors

I've really tried with this one but I'll have to ask for help.
Winifred Edwards was born in 1887 in Deri, Glamorganshire. Her parents were David and Mary Edwards. David was born in Llanfyllin in 1844 and Mary in Tredegar in 1851. The last I can find of Winifred is on the 1901 census when the family was living in Ynysybwl. By this time David was dead and Mary had remarried to Morgan Coombs.

I have found two marriages in Pontypridd district for a Winifred Edwards, one to Michael J. Bray and one to John C. Davies, both in 1911 but I can't find a Winifred with either name in 1911. I even looked for a marriage with the name Coombs in case she adopted this after her mother remarried.

I know Winifred settled in Deri because I was taken by my parents to visit her there in the late 1950s.

I've searched 1939 with one name, two names and all sorts of spellings but with no luck.

Does anyone please have any suggestions? It's probably obvious and I'm going to feel very silly - again!

Yes, it's 14/01/1887. I had that from her school record.

You beat me to it with that. It says Edward but it's definitely Edwards. I looked at the correction but it didn't tell me any more than I already know.

The Bray and Davies marriages in 1911 were in the April - June quarter, so may have been after the census date.

From the 1939 register, it looks aif Michael J Bray could have married the other bride, Mary Smith:

Do you remember your parents mentioning any children that Winifred had.

there are other possible marriages, apart form the two you mention, in Glamorgan, but she could have married anywhere?

No, we don't remember any children. My mother's memory is excellent - at ninety-two! - and she remembers Winnie and her husband (but doesn't remember his name) and can't recall them having any children. I remember going to the house but only Auntie Winnie was there, Uncle ? was always in work. Thank you all for trying.

Do you have the right birth date as not seeing a birth for her in mar qtr 1887

I found her exact date of birth on the school record and the census records show the year as 1887. Her father's name and address are correct on the record.

This is the only Winifred Edwards born anywhere in England / Wales in first qr 1887 - and Mary Edward's ms was Jones.

Is it possible this is your Winifred, even though the censuses say she was born in Wales ??

Is it possible that Winifred was a 'pet' name?
