There is no evidence amongst all the above, that Joseph and Elizabeth were Raymond's parents, nor is there any sign of his birth in the UK

He was not with Joseph & Elizabeth in 1901, when he would only have been 7.

Although the names seem like a big coincidence, perhaps that's all it is.
Perhaps he was born in South Africa, and is no relation of Joseph & Elizabeth..

Adding to what ArgyllGran says, if he was the son of Elizabeth Isabella Appleby nee Welford/Walford, she would have been only 13 when he was born 1894.

A tree on Ancestry says that his parents were William Appleby & Maria Johanna Giles.

I have to say very many thanks to my wonderful research Sue in South Africa she has traced the Appleby family back to 1813 in Surrey via the family in SA
