Jean Francois was a writer on his marriage register entry, and Eugene born 1812's father John was a writer in the Residents Office on Eugene 1812's baptism register entry, so I think we have good grounds for our thoughts, especially given the name of Jean Francois's bride.

Looks pretty certain then.

But how to go back further????

Elaine

Elaine Report 3 Nov 2017 16:40

That is the question.

Teresia/Therasia was born in 1785. Was her maiden name Perera. I found on their wedding cert her name was written as Therasia Perera Natuie. - widow

Jean Francois Chatelier or John Francis was born in 17?? Where? India or France. I think it will be a lot of searching.

Kucinra - A bit of trivia - Jan 16 1761 The British captured Pudacherry from the French, but the Treaty of Paris 1763 at the conclusion of the 7 year war returned it.....Pondicherry, Mahe, Yanam, Karaikal and Chandernager remained part of French India until 1954.

Therefore Jean Francois Chatelier was most likely born in India in the 1700's. Now to try and find his details. Cheers.

Re Teresia/Therasia, I read the marriage entry slightly differently as Theresia Perera NATIVE widow of Tranquehar. . If so, Perera is likely to be her married name by her previous husband.

Oh ! You are clever, never thought of the word NATIVE. You are right. Thanks for the input. Kucinta.

Can't find any male Perera marriages with a bride named Teresia/Therasia though, or Perera baptisms with a mother named Teresia/Therasia in the years before the marriage to Jean Francois Chatelier.

Perera can also be spelt Periera / Pereira. I have found the later but trying to make a fit.
Thanks for your continued help, much appreciated.
