also the wife was Susan and a death of Robert gives her maiden as 'Giles' hoping 1911 will say how long they had been married as i haven't found a marriage for them -but think i have Robert as 'single in 1881 in a lodging house in Exeter.

Despite his age, he signed up for WW1. Record gives his marriage date as 31 Dec 1881. Along with name and date of birth of all children (will transcribe if requested)
Posted to Training School (looks like Dorking)
Would seem he caught Hepititus inJan 1918, was discharged and died at home.

11 September 1928 - Western Morning News - Plymouth, Devon, England
WESTERN POLICE COURTS Sad case of Missing Defendant That a defendant on bail, who could not be found, was probably suffering severely from the effects of drink was the theory advanced at Exeter Police Court yesterday when Edward Collins, of Adelaide-villas, Cedars-road, Exeter, a Customs officer, failed to appear in answer to a charge of being drunk and incapable in Barnfield-road Saturday night. The Chief constable said it was a very sad case, and when the man was found he would need treatment in a mental home or a hospital. Constable Jarman who took the man into custody said he found a bottle three parts full of whisky in his pocket. A fine of 10s. was imposed.
