Hi all just had a reply from Reg - re the photo Album - Hopefully he would not mind me posting a transcript of the letter - after all you were all involved in getting the photo album back to the family (in fact I did very little and you all did the work so thanks very much)

Dear Diana

Thank you so much for the prompt delivery of the photo album. Although well worn there are folk in some photographs that correspond with 2 photos from my Mum (long gone, sorry to say) so no help there. However on the Atkins side there is a contact in Caterham that we keep in touch with at Christmas, so will try that route and yes I will keep you informed.

Thank you once again

Wishing you well

Regards

Reg

Wow, I'm so glad he's interested to see it.

Amazing to think you saved it Di, and went to the trouble of finding family. I'd be well chuffed if it was my family in that album.

Great news
:-)

Excellent news!

It's amazing what can be found out online, from such scant information at the start!

Plenty of coffee places about there AQ, you're always welcome, am sure Walter felt at home, seeing the river full of tourists on punts!.

Wow- fabulous Chris. Looks quite a historical street- wish we could've seen it for real too.

Finger's crossed Di gets a response.

Can't beat personal, on-the-spot research, Chris!

Even without a sticky bun.

Well, just to add, weather being cooler, Walter accompanied me on a walk to Bridge Street this Morning, lol, that grating from next door in photo, same place, now filled with small glass panes in, young lad very helpful in next door shop!, he agreed the same!.

Had a look at some old Street Directories in Library, Gibsons there for quite some time.

Had coffee, but didn't offer Walter a famous Fitzbillies Chelsea bun, too sticky this weather, lol.

Chris :)

Good idea Di- just don't leave it too long. Mr Pharoah isn't getting any younger!

Dianad

Dianad Report 21 Jun 2017 08:39

I have just message a person on this board who has a Pharoah in their tree as a first contact before I go any further. they are from South Wales ... so lets wait for a couple of days to see if I get a response, if I don't I will write to the address given to me by AustinQ

Alice's daughter, Sylvia married Walter Pharoah in 1934- Walter died in Cardiff 1960.

Sylvia and Walter had a son, R--, also born 1934. I presume he is the closed record living with his Mum and Granny Alice in 1939. He's now living in Wales listed on the 2017 electoral register.

There's a lovely article on him in 2014- he was cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats for his 80th birthday, to raise money for Marie Curie.
----------------------------

His granny Alice married Samuel Ernest Brown- the brother of Emma's husband, Herbert. Therefore R-- may recognise Brown and Atkin family in the album.

Let me know if you need me to pm the address to you.

First thoughts are the photo labelled Alice, I think is the correct time frame for Emma's sister (Alice Augusta Atkins born 1876)- that's looking at her possible age against the wonderful sleeves on her dress.

The lady in the black velvet dress with a book on her lap looks to be related to girls in the family group (the older girl on the right & the older girl on the left- both standing). She also resembles the lady to the right of the bride in the large wedding photo.

In the family photo, the 'PG' on the sash stands for 'Past Grand' master
