Could anyone help in my confusion? I am researching my maternal family and have hit a brick wall. I have my Grandmother's birth certificate from Woolwich 1894 stating that her name was Malaha (should be Mahala) Rose MILLS born 29th July 1894 and her father was Thomas Alfred MILLS and her mother was Annie CHAPMAN. I also have the correct 1911 Census for my Grandmother Mahala Rose MILLS and Great Grandmother Anne MILLS (born Northfleet, Kent). My problem is there appears to be be more than one Anne Chapman born same time, same place and I can't work out which family line to travel down. Could someone out there please set me in the right direction? Thanks Ann

Thank you so much for your help. I have been in contact with a person who says that her Anne Chapman's line comes from the same people you have mentioned in the 1901 census, but she didn't marry Thomas Alfred MILLS and the predecessors were entirely different. Your help has made a few things a lot clearer and I will now apply for the marriage certificate to obtain Anne Chapman's father. Thanks again and if you come up with any more information I will greatly appreciate it.

A possibility perhaps??
The Alfred Chapman living as a boarder in the 1901 census might be Ann Mills (nee Chapman) ilegitimate son
Birth reg: CHAPMAN, ALFRED GEORGE - GRO Reference: 1884 D Quarter in NORTH AYLESFORD Volume 02A Page 532

In the 1891 census Alfred is living with his grandparents Charles and Mahala (see above)
In the same census Charles and Mahala have a son William born c1879 recorded
This looks to be his baptism: (Note they were living in Shone at this time)

Still waiting for marriage certificate for Annie CHAPMAN and Thomas Alfred MILLS. As we live in New Zealand it takes a couple of weeks to get here. I am still having difficulties in finding the death of Thomas Alfred MILLS. I have found his wife Anne and his daughter Mahala Rose Mills in the 1911 Census living at 22 Foxlow Street, Bermondsey working in the Pink's Jam Factory. It states that Anne had been married for 22 years and NOT that she was a widow. I am wondering if this had anything to do with the military or work somewhere else? I can't find any information for this though. Any ideas? Thanks Ann
