Tawny Report 5 Jun 2017 22:55

I am trying to find Eleanor Bewley after the 1851 census. I realise that Eleanor may have died but I cannot find her husband after 1851 either. Eleanor was born in 1809 in St Bees, Cumberland

In 1841 Eleanor is living with her parents John Wasdale (1772) and Eleanor Valentine (1773). Also in the house is Eleanor Bewleys husband Joseph Bewley (1809) and nephew Thomas Cannon (1833).

In 1851 Eleanor is living with her widowed mother Eleanor who is given as an annuitant who was also born in St Bees and her husband Joseph who is given as a farmer of two acres. Joseph's place of birth is given as Distington, Cumberland. Also in the house is her nephew Alexander Henry (Hy) Greenlaw (1837) and Mary Bewley (1836) a house servant.

Can anyone find Eleanor ( Wasdale) Bewley?

Thank you both that does appear to be Eleanor. I couldn't find Joseph because he has been changing jobs again. Changing jobs seems to be a theme with this branch of the family. Eleanor's brother in law William Greenlaw went from cooper to publican and then to customs officer

Thank you. That could be Joseph and Eliza's deaths as we all know people could be elastic with the concept of age.

Thank you for the census records. The fact that the children are living elsewhere does strongly suggest both parents are dead.

That death notice in the paper does suggest that Eleanor died young and that's why I couldn't find her.
