Hi another query here...researching the other side of the family! I have Robert Martin Wotton born to David William Wotton and Margaret Martin, married 1901. According to the marriage cert Margaret was the daughter of Robert Martin and Margaret Martin nee Green, ages given as 29 and 20 respectively. I'm confused about the lineage of Margaret... I can find a record in the 1861 census which suggests Margaret Green born 1855 in Galston ayrshire, but nothing else. On the marriage cert of Robert Martin and Margaret Green (married Auchinlech Ayr 1873) it says her parent were John Green and Isabella Green born Stitt. There is a census result in 1861 for a Margaret Green, child of Isabella Green... but says fathers name is William? Is it possible people used different names do you think? |

On that 1861 census, Jane's occupation is given as Lady's Maid to one of the visitors. She must have been pretty good at the job to be Lady's Maid to the wife of Lord Kinnaird as he would appear to be quite high ranking. |

Can't see a birth record for him (the one I suggested previously was definitely wrong). |

as it has father David Wotton , shoemaker on the marriage cert, do you know any way of finding this out. Have looked on 1861 and 1871 census with name variations but cant find anything there, any ideas? |

I would say William Whitelaw was David's uncle - Jane's brother - but could be wrong! |
