William Ernest Guest b 1919 d 1982 who married an Ann (D) Smith in or around 1945-1950. Cannot find a marriage in UK but the family think they may have married in Scotland? Ann died in Perth Scotland in Dec 1985

Does your friend know who Ernest William Guest parents were?

Maybe Jane just called herself Ann, so your friend thought that was her real name?

She did die as Guest, in 1985 as you said, though in Perthshire rather than actually Perth:

The death cert would tell you if she was divorced or not.

thank them all for their efforts yet again. I think "greyghost" has it. Found out that Jean/Jane died in Dec 1985. The marriage between William/Ernest (christened William but always known as Ernest) and Jean/Jane didn't last, think they split up about 1950-1955? The marriage in Blairgowrie appears to be right and "fits" William went on to be married a further two times. I know there is a half sister to a Jean Ann Guest b 1947 but do not need info.

Sorry Ann, I was editing my post while you were adding your post. I think they must have divorced in England as I can't see a record of it in Scotland.

It's quite useful that in Scotland ladies are usually recorded on all legal documents by all the surnames that they have been known by, including their maiden surname and any previous married names :-)
