I have found this, posted some years ago....

Help needed from a very kind person who subscribes to World Membership on Ancestry.co.uk. I am looking for the information concealed on the Immigration & Emigration record type for, the Hamburg Passenger List 1850-1934 arrival: Southampton on; Cherbourg; New York, for William Mathis.

This was the reply
Furst Bismarck, August 1901:
Entry 93, MATHIS William, 56, verh [think it means married], New York, Sattler [?]
Entry 94, MATHIS W. 56 verh, New York [looks like his wife]

So now thinking my great granddad is German ? Furst Bismarck was a ship.

Any ideas? :-)
