Find Ancestors

I cannot trace a birth for the above person. There is a family in Paddington London with the name Albrecht Smith on the 1911 census but the same family in 1901 does not show the Albrecht name. I wondered if he was descended from them? Any suggestions please.

Ordering a copy of the marriage certificate seems to be the best way to find out his father's name at least.

Albrecht appears to me to be a middle name as opposed to being part of the surname. Could his mother's surname have been Albrecht perhaps? Or possibly a family name passed down?

There is a German connection and that is where the Albrecht comes from we believe. He was not born in Germany but why can't I find the registration of his birth and why the difference with the 1901 and 1911 census reports. Maybe there are some other Albrecht Smith families.

The 1955 marriage was in the Ashton Reg District, which includes Denton.

The 1939 register has this record for a Colin A Smith, born 1931 in Denton.

However it is a common name, and it may be that 'your' Colin A[lbrecht] Smith is still a closed record on the register as he didn't die until 2008.

Possibly, but Smith is such a common name, and there are other marriages of a Leslie A Smith to an Amy further afield.

Yes - the Denton family on the 1939 is the correct one but no mention of the name Albrecht. It seems that the Paddington Albrecht Smiths are not connected. I wonder if the Leslie A Smith is an Albrecht.

if you read the thread, I have already demonstrated that there was a Leslie Albrecht Smith born at the same time as the Leslie A Smith on the 1939 register, and alviegal has found that same Leslie Albrecht Smith's baptism, and also the marriage of his Albrecht mother to his Smith father.

The Sewell marriage and birth of Colin A Smith in Salford in 1931 also tie in pretty well with the information on the 1939 register.

Kucinta has posted his baptism showing his name as Leslie Albrecht Smith. Alviegal has posted his parents marriage showing his mother's maiden name as Albrecht.

???? Not sure who's son Walter is as the previous household had Thomas Bold as head. No Leslie on this either.

Just to totally confirm that Leslie A Smith on the 1939 register is the Leslie Albrecht Smith whose birth i found, and baptism alviegal found, in Blackburn, here is another transcript of the baptism that includes the birthdate. 7th June 1893, just the same as on the 1939 register

In 1901 Leslie is visiting Blackpool with his grandmother Margaret Smith and his uncle Charles Smith so I'm sure that is the correct family Alviegal
