Hi Sylvia well done that looks like him all right. It's said in the family he gave his wrong age (older than he was) just to get into the army. At some point he war shot in the elbow after going over the top and was returned to britain with his injury and never got to return to the front. He came back home to falkirk to be a Iron moulder.

If you mean the first record that Sylvia posted (the one below), then Chris already explained his NOK is listed as Mother: Christina Paterson, Inveraray- so not yours.
James Paterson Age 16 Birth year 1896 Birth county Argyllshire Birth country Scotland Service number 1450 Regiment Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Unit / Battalion 8th Battalion
This service record is on FMP and have confirmed Mother is listed as Christina and his father as Andrew

Hi Austin I have checked on Ancestry as Chris instructed and only see John Paterson's listed there? The James Paterson No 1450 that Sylvia posted looks good. Family believe he received the 14/15 star so he must have be shot and then discharged from duty 1915
I found this record for 8th Battalion A&S 1/8th (The Argyllshire) Battalion Territorial Force 04.08.1914 Stationed at Dunoon, Argyll as part of the s part of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Brigade of the Highland Division and then moved to Bedford. 15.04.1915 Transferred to the 1st Highland Brigade. May 1915 Mobilised for war and landed in France. 12.05.1915 The formation became the 152nd Brigade of the 51st Division and engaged in various actions on the Western front including; 1915 The Battle of Festubert, The Second Action of Givenchy.
Also found Era: ww1 The 1914 – 15 Star was a campaign medal of the British Empire, for service in World War one.
This Star is identical with the 1914 Star in every respect except that the centre scroll bears the dates “1914- 15” and the two small scrolls bearing “Aug” and “Nov” are omitted.
The 1914-15 Star was approved in 1918, for issue to officers and men of British Imperial Forces who saw service in any theatre of war against the Central Powers between 5th August, 1914, and 31st December, 1915,

Thanks Austin for your look up I can now safely say No 1450 James Paterson is not the person I am looking for. Interesting note told this morning by old family members that James Paterson was a lance corporal in command of a machine gun team of four men. when they went over the top he was shot in the elbow returned to the line other three in his team where killed.

Unfortunately I don't see service/ pension records for either of the men listed- not surprising as many didn't survive.
Perhaps someone else can look just to double check.
