(more like your Nettle I would say, lol)

Doddington and Wimblington very near to March, that is quite a bit larger, all 'Fen' to me, lol, lovely Churches though.

Chris :)

Edits (just seen latest from AG, well that's informative then, just had a 'nosey' in newspapers, yes, Bell Metal Lane)

ArgyllGran Report 31 Aug 2016 14:14

This interesting article suggests Bell Mettle/Nettle/Metal Lane is now Elwyn Road.

http://tinyurl.com/zcv9vt9

"Bell Metal Lane (Elwyn Road), Mill Yard, Jimby’s Yard, Little London and other places were frequently visited by Doddington’s rector. These were severely afflicted by fever and other diseases. The people were in a low moral condition and had lost the will to live."

(This is around 1841-51)

Yes, Chris, it's the "Hamlet of March" in the Parish or Township of Doddington.

"March was divided into four ecclesiastical parishes which, with three others, were formed out of the previous parish of Doddington after 1863, under the Doddington Rectory Division Acts of 1847 and 1856 [10 and 11 Vict. c. 3 (1847) and 19 and 20 Vict. c. 1 (1856)]."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March,_Cambridgeshire

It does look like Bell Mettle Lane on the image, but as I found the other unrelated record saying Nettle, I put that in my earlier post - but it may well be Mettle.

EDIT: I've also found called Bell Metal Lane.

Chris Ho :) Report 31 Aug 2016 13:49

Would that be Doddington AG, looking at image...

Re address:

in 1841 John Jones (if that's the right man) was living in Bell Nettle Lane, March, Doddington. (Called Bells Nettle Lane in another, but unrelated, record from 1833.)
No house number.

It seems to have been somewhere near the Market Place - but then I expect everywhere was near the Market place in 1841, as March would be a small hamlet.
I can't find anywhere with a name anything like that in Doddington nowadays (Google Maps, etc)

Also in Bell Nettle Lane were a family called Youles (which seems to be a variant of Youle in other censuses).
Can't seem to find them when looking them up separately, but here's the same family in 1851 - must be some sort of relation of Elizabeth, in a small village like March, but don't know what. There were also other Youle(s) families in March.:

Thank you AG and Chris. I have spoken to daughter and she is going to look in the church graveyard, when she has the time. I am guessing that any deaths where buried there . hope the stones are still around. When I go there next , will try and contact the church as well. Hope to find some concrete evidence there. Did you have any address for the family? A lot of doddington is fairly new, but some old buildings still around. Maybe the cambridge soc, will have old maps of the area, which will also be good to view. I did go to March library some years ago, and they do have old docs, as well

(lol, fascinating what Family History research uncovers)

Chris :)

Doddington was well highlighted in 2012, with Jonnie Peacock, and his 'Gold' Postbox, and well deserved it was too!.

Good idea. Maybe I can get one of the girls to go there, as they are all drive. I have had a look at the web site, but not sure which ones I would need. It may be just as quick for me to send for them, as they would have to post to me any way. This is getting really exciting. Hard to believe that descendents could return to a small village nearly 200 years later!
