Have you considered that James may have died and she reverted to her maiden name

Deaths Jun 1899
Burton James 59 Ashby Z. 7a 68

It is the correct James above. Death 13th May 1899. Probate: Whitwick, innkeeper to John Joseph Sharp, solicitor £69 10s 9d

PricklyHolly Report 3 Jul 2016 15:12

I am not seeing her in the 1911 census as Burton or Wallis.

Might this be her death........

Hi Gins & Prickles,

Sorry had to go off line. I do believe it's the same Emma and I hadn't thought that James may have died so Thank you so much Gins. Prickles The death for Emma Wallis in 1911 could be her age is right so probably died before 1911 census and could be buried in Beeston Cemetery. I cannot find a possible death for her mother Elizabeth can you see her anywhere in deaths or on 1911 census.

Again you both for you help you are brilliant as always

:-D :-D

I can't see an obvious death for Elizabeth either.

Maybe the person who was the informant on her death certificate had no clue as to her age?

Hi Gins,

Thank you for looking at least I know I didn't miss it. It could be that she moved from Beeston maybe going to live with one of her other children somewhere else. More work to do.

The Emma in 1901 is with her Mother in 1891, and 1881, so doesn't fit with living in Leicester with James Burton in 1891:

1881 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription

Perhaps the Emma/ Emily that married James Burton died? They were living in Ashby de la Zouch in 1891- so maybe this death?

Death:
Name: Emma Burton
Estimated birth year: abt 1843
Registration Year: 1894
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Age at Death: 51
Registration district: Ashby de la Zouch
Inferred County: Leicestershire

Hi Austin,

OK so that means that there was another Emma Wallis born 1842/3 Stapleford so back to the drawing board for me and the 1881 census is wrong too for this Emma. Most of the Stapleford Wallis's are on my tree. This Wallis section was in Sneinton in 1871, will post details later. The death you found sounds promising.

Hi,

Here's what I have on this Wallis line:

James Wallis born 1822 Stapleford married Elizabeth Daykin 24 Jan 1840 Elizabeth died July 1848 in Stapleford
Chidren were:
Hannah Daykin Wallis born 1841
Emma Wallis 1843 (see above posts)
Sarah Ann Wallis 1846.
James then married Elizabeth Gray 16 July 1850 in Beeston
children were
John James 1851 born Hackney Middlesex
Elizabeth 1855 Stapleford
Alfred 1862 Sneinton.

Now census I have are:
1851: Mare Street, Hackney Piece 1506, Folio 35, Pg 1
James, wife Elizabeth
Daughters Emma and Sarah Ann, and son John James.

1861: Manvers Street, Sneinton, Nottingham Piece 2451, Folio 84, Pg 36
James wife Elizabeth
daughters Hannah, Emma, Sarah Ann, Elizabeth, son John James

1871: South Street, Sneinton Piece 3505, Folio 42, Pg 27
James (names as John James) wife Elizabeth
daughters Emma and Elizabeth, sons John James and Alfred.

Marriage I have for children are:
23 March 1862 Hannah Wallis to George Burrell, Hannah's father James Wallis and Emily (Emma) Wallis was a witness

1 Oct 1871 Elizabeth Wallis of South Street father James Wallis to Reuben Parker and John James Wallis was Witness.

25 Dec 1871 John James Wallis of South Street father down as John James Wallis to Catherine Smith. witnesses were Elizabeth and Reuben Parker (above marriage)

26 Jan 1884 Emily Wallis of South Street father James Wallis to James Burton
witnesses were Stephen and Fanny Wallis her cousin's.

Cannot find a death for James or Elizabeth and cannot find family on 1881 census as looks like the Elizabeth and Emma I had on 1881 census is the wrong ones.

Wendy
