Hello All
Wonder can any one help me please? I am trying to find any information about a Metcalfe family, A Phyllis Metcalf born 1911 in Littleport Cambridgeshire in particular, parents William Henry Metcalfe 1881-1853 and Hannah Thompson 1883-1956, Phyllis married a Jean Leroy in Lymington Hants in 1930 but after this date i can find no information about her until she married my Grandfather William Hollis in Portsmouth in 1954, there are only stories and intrigue around her life during the war years and also a birth of a son about in the 1930s when she was not married to Jean Leroy, the son, i dont know his name? came looking for her in 1954 just before she married my Grandfather, but Phyllis refused to have any contact with him i would like to also find this missing person and his family if i can, so i can share info and photos with them, i would be grateful for any info or advice no mater how small as i have well and truly hit a brick wall, many thanks in advance

I can't find any sign of her in the 1939 Register.

I also can't find any likely births of a son using any combination of the names she has had.

The trees on Ancestry don't say where Jean Leroy died.

Can't see his death in UK.
There's this one, but this Jean is in the Merchant Navy, so can't be Phyllis's husband, who was born 1888 if the trees are correct - quite a bit older than Phyllis:

Doris Mary Childersley with whom Brian Walter was living in 1939, posted above by Pat, was a Metcalfe. Perhaps a cousin of Phyllie??.

Brian Walter's birth cert will be needed as you have 2 possible mother's for him.

Doris and Phyllis are both Metcalfe's so which one is the mother? He was born prior to both their marriages.

I suspect Brian was Doris's child.

Doris's father was Michael Charles Metcalfe.
Phyllis's was William Henry Metcalfe.

Looking at censuses, Michael doesn't appear to have had a brother called William, so Doris and Phyllis weren't even cousins.

I think maybe the one going to USA is not your Phyllis.

There was another Phyllis le Roy born Maine USA 1909 wife of Gaylord Clarke Le Roy 28/9/1910-6/5/1995 he was a professor and she was also in teaching.

Phyllis Le Roy born 29/12/1909 Bar Harbour Maine left Southampton 7/10/1946 on the ship Southampton and arrived New York 14/10/1946 at the side of her name it has D for divorced I think.
On one travel record it says in transit to Switzerland,Gaylord C Le Roy has travel record from Italy 23/8/1953 where he is with a Eva S le Roy born Switzerland

It was niggling at me as to why your Phyllis would be down as USA citizen and staying at 1,Grosvener Square which looks to be American Embassy in 1946,that is why I asked what she did as a job on second marriage cert.

I'am now wondering if your Phyllis didn't go to USA, but I maybe wrong.

Notes Leah Thompson, 1901 in Coton, Cambs, also there 1911 is Sidney Childerley, with Father Simon, at same Public House, The Plough, it's still in use. Sidney died there also. Just wondered if some coincidence, somewhere, although Littleport some distance from Coton!.
