Edward George was born 20 January 1910 in Kent. From his baptism and the 1911 census parents were Edward Henry Steed and Annie nee Jarrett. I have found their marriage in November 1908.
When Edward George married he gave his name as Burrows and he died in Redhill in 1983 as Burrows with the correct dob.
Can anyone help me find the transition from Steed to Burrows. I have Edward Henry's death in 1955

Just off the top of my head - did Annie ever remarry to a Burrows and Henry George took his stepfather's surname?

MC - that's my assumption but can't find a remarriage. Edward Henry Steed died in 1955...Edward George married as Burrows in 1938. So I am guessing Edward Henry and Annie split up and she took Edward George (too many Edwards!) with her. Guess there won't be anything to give it away :-(
Malyon there IS a birth Edward George Steed Thanet 2a 1022 Q1 1910

Looking at this from a different angle, I searched for BURROWS births with maiden name JARRETT. There is one, far north of Kent, but interestingly I couldn't see a corresponding marriage for those names.
Did Annie have a later child, without actually marrying the father or Was there perhaps more than one marriage so she was STEED to ???? before she became known as BURROWS??

Tried the Steed Burrows and the Jarrett Burrows angles Gwyn.
In 1911 she and Edward Henry Steed are living in Ramsgate..married 2 years 1 child born 1 child living (Edward George).
Only birth I can see for Jarrett/Burrows is in Barnsley! At some point they migrated south to Sussex and then north to Surrey.
I have sent for Edward George's birth certificate and marriage certificate to see what light they may shed on things!

One thing that may be of use....he and ena may married at the register office in hove. But her address was Southfields East charing. When her father died in Ashford hospital his address was just that. It was a farm in Ashford Kent. Probate to Edward James WIllson, Ena's brother, farmer and Edward George Burrows, farm manager. So I am guessing that when Annie took up with Henry Burrows it was in Kent.

Hey Jude,
No idea if this is related, but it may explain why Annie was with someone else, and why she couldn't marry.
"Dover Express - Friday 04 August 1922 SANDWICH QUARTER SESSIONS
Thomas Holmes...was indicted on a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm upon Edward Henry Steed at Ramsgate on 17th April last. ...Steed got up but was knocked down a second time and sustained such injuries that he was taken to hospital where, the skull having been fractured an operation had to be performed to relieve paralysis; and the man was subsequently certified insane and was liberated shortly before the trial, though he was unable to give evidence....."
You said you have the death certificate of Edward Henry in 1955- I wondered if it would give any indication that it is the same man?

Jude, what were the occupations of the two Edward Henry Steeds (father and son)?
In the article mentioned by AustinQ the name is recorded as Edward Henry Steed (not the other way round). He was a miner, living in Dover. Unfortunately no age given.

Austin, I don't have the death certificate just the GRO reference.
I'll check the cert later but in 1911 Edward Henry Jnr was a cabinet maker and his father a luggage porter
I haven't found Edward George in 1939 although I have found Ena May
And I haven't managed to find Annie and of course Henry Burrows had died by then.
I did find Southfield Farm Charing Heath (not East Charing) up for sale lol! It's beautiful
Back later when I am home from work

Thanks Marie, I was trying to post it before work- yes the article was for Edward Henry Steed- I've now corrected it.
Just to add- I think the address of Edward George Burrows on his marriage was Tongdean Avenue (not Tongclean)

Mmm..how strange, Austin. Henry Burrows was, of course, deceased by then. But she was, I think, a witness at her son's marriage and went by the name Burrows then.
