David, where did you get the information on Helensburgh from? There is a Helen's Bay in Co Down, would that be a better fi?.

Looking at the 1841 Scotland census, there are only 11 Irvin(e)(g)s living in Dunbartonshire and only two were born there. 6 were born in Ireland. The name doesn't seem to be common in that area of Scotland - 1841 has over 4000 Irvin, Irvine or Irvings!

Scotlandspeople has 4 births for the name between 1800 and 1820 and there are 4 on familysearch - all in Cumbernauld, No Francis.

Well found, safc.

It looks as if there were two Francises married to Roseannes. This is David's in Ireland in 1901:

Residents of a house 7 in Osborne Street (Duncairn Ward, Antrim)

Irvine Rosanna 20 Female Daughter Methodist
Irvine Francis 65 Male Head of Family Methodist
Irvine Rosanna 55 Female Wife Methodist

I'm seeing the younger of the daughters born in Scotland, her elder sisters

born in Ireland

Their Father born in Ireland and also the Mother

David, the births of the children of Francis & Rose Ann Mullen are on familysearch. I have posted one (Rose Ann) above.

Did the Helensborough link come from finding this couple in the Scottish 1901? If you are descended from the Francis who married Rose Ann Galloway, then this is not your direct family but could be connected.

David,
The family in Dunbartonshire from 1891 to 1901 seem to be that of:
Francis Irvine and Rose Ann Mullen.
Most children were born in Belfast but they do not appear to have had a son named Samuel.

Francis Irvine and Rose Ann Galloway are on both the 1901 and 1911 census in Antrim.
Most children were born in Ballylinney, Ballynure and Doagh.
These are Samuels parents

2 different families both had daughters named Rose Ann born in Antrim.

Im not sure if you think these two men are father and son?
The two men named Francis seem to be of a similar age therefore they are probably not a father living in Dunbartonshire with his son living in Antrim

You see my problem. I f some one as able as yourself sees a bit of difficulty

on the evidence available, you can imagine my confusion because I'm admittedly.
not the quickest

I was off these threads for 21/2 years but some time before that I'm sure someone informed me Francis senior was a fisherman from Dunbarton.

Not knowing where she got this I accepted it :-(

My Irvine's have the Doag and Ballylinny connection. How they arrived in

Osborne Street Duncairn North Belfast I do not know.

These are your grandparents Samuel and Sarah at 1911
They are living in the same street as Samuel's parents

I*'d seen that 1911 census thank you
In all probability Francis and or Rosanna
helped Sarah McLarnon bring my Father into the world :-D

Samuel G Irvine aged 3 died aged 7 before my Father was born.

ArgyllGran Report 31 Oct 2015 21:53

No births show on ScotlandsPeople for a Francis Irvin* in Dunbartonshire 1800-25, which would be a reasonable time-frame for the birth of Francis senior.

There are ten in other areas - Edinburgh, East Lothian, Aberdeen, Dumfriesshire, Wigtownshire.

I think Helensburgh's a red herring. Ireland seems far more likely.

David, googling 'Rose Anna Galloway' it kind of looks like you have posted hither and yon about this family

there's a reply to you here (at the moment, until that thread gets added to)

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/trying_to_find/xx/thread/1228199?page=2153

and here in the middle of another unrelated thread

http://tinyurl.com/o9f8blh

and here in 2013

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1319033

and here in 2012

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/records_office/thread/1100192?page=36

and people who have no idea you have asked for help before just keep finding you the same info

maybe this time stick to this thread and don't start any more, or ask in general unrelated threads about this where people don't know you have had specific threads about it

it's the rule ...

Thank you Argyl?Gran I too think the Helensburgh l is a red herring.

I confess I didn't find it, I was given it some time back on GR or some

other genealogical thread.

To Joonie Cloonis I apologise for my untidy / slovenly disorganised random search for

my paternal ancestry. I knew I'd asked before, didn't realise how disorganised I was

Apologies to all who have wasted time re-checking what I'd neglected to file.

David...There are a couple more out here as well as the above ...don't bother yourself about it..!!
Given I had responded to most of them and couldn't recall... what does that say about me..!!!

David

David Report 1 Nov 2015 12:06

To you and all who helped me, I thank you <3

Since I first started looking for my Father's ancestors I've changed my PC at least 3

times without sensibly storing or backing up my files / search records.

Then I was seriously injured in an accident more than 21/2 years ago and wasn't on

GR or other sites. I've never had the tidiest of minds but since over coming the worst

of the accident I've resolved to tidy up as accurately as possible my family tree

which I started on years ago.. Confess I'm not only an untidy worker but I'm rather

wasteful of my time and resources. I ought to have correctly learned how to use all

the sources available as you and others do so well. :-)

David

David Report 1 Nov 2015 12:09

I intend to get as many of Father's family names on my tree as I can soon

so that I cannot say they are lost or forgotten,
