Okay .Will have another look through but not holding my breath about getting in ..the My Threads function hasn't been working since I don't remember when...

Nicola'S Report 7 Feb 2016 14:20

I've not deleted a thread - and wouldn't know how to!

Eringobragh1916 Report 7 Feb 2016 08:29

Nicola...Managed to access "My Threads" to cross ref. something on one of your previous threads but cannot find any one of your postings going back since forever..
Have you deleted them...?

Nicola'S Report 6 Feb 2016 15:32

I'm sure you'll drop lucky on at least one of those - you're so persistent, and knowledgeable too.

Eringobragh1916 Report 6 Feb 2016 00:53

Nicola....Don't know who to focus on first am all tied up in knots with your family history....Have spent the past couple of hours chasing Alicia Neill Paul Matseders whereabouts...Now I am back to DRM's marriage...not to mention Fred.H.E Vaughans' Baptism...!!

Nicola'S

Nicola'S Report 6 Feb 2016 00:01

Although Eringobragh has written elsewhere that she's still looking for this marriage. Good on you gal - standing by!

Registrar General in Jamaica [see my above] have remained stonily silent despite a prod from me.

Frustratingly, they were my last hope in this search. I think I'll have to edit my thread title to indicate that it's semi-closed; it's not fair on all of you to get involved in all these dead ends .......

Thank you all. :-D

Nicola'S Report 12 Dec 2015 13:07

Oh bother.
Crockford's was only established in 1858 and so it seems that our chap slipped through the net.
I will contact said local Vicar [above] for more suggestions :-)

Nicola'S Report 12 Dec 2015 13:01

Our local Vicar was on our quiz team last night and made the very obvious suggestion of contacting Crockford's Directory! Don't know why I didn't make this connection myself, nor why all the other institutions didn't offer that help either. Will now make the search and let you know the results - hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

That's such a disappointment Nicola! At least you know you've exhausted all avenues, perhaps one day in the future something will turn up.

Thanks for keeping us informed.

Nicola'S Report 30 Nov 2015 17:24

Well, I've contacted all the above and more in my search for C of E records and have drawn a blank all round.

It appears that nowhere are the records of C of E vicars, etc. kept in a central place. Extraordinary! If nothing else, I was hoping to drop on somewhere that keeps a record of their 'staff'. But no.

So I think we'll have to accept that the Church of England doesn't keep that sort of records and we shall never find this elusive marriage.

Over and out on this one. But I've learned a lot!
:-D

Nicola'S Report 9 Nov 2015 18:44

I've just had an email from Lambeth Palace Library and they suggest the London Gazette, and a publication called the 'Carribbeana'. I'm ashamed to say that I can't make the Gazette website work - am I doing something wrong?
I'm also going to email the Registrar General in Jamaica and see if they have any records for the marriage, etc.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Eringobragh1916 Report 6 Nov 2015 14:53

Nicola...As a last resort you could try ploughing through "Gentleman's Magazine" years 1853 onwards..I started but it takes some time given they may not have married until after DRM went back to UK in 1862.

Nicola'S Report 6 Nov 2015 13:34

Sorry, I should have got back to this thread before bedtime! I did in fact go on to find her in 1851 with her parents, brother and sister - her younger brother, my relation by marriage see above, would have been +/- 20 years old and presumably was already out in India with his regiment by then? But I'm still defeated by her in the 1861 census.
Apologies to Gins; thank you for your work on the census entries. I'd seen it all previously but have become somewhat fixated on the elusive marriage ..........!

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 6 Nov 2015 09:11

Nicola...
Gins posted 1851 census...go back to page 1 of this thread...9oct.18.21.

Nicola'S Report 5 Nov 2015 23:22

I've found her in 1841, with her younger brother HBH my relation by marriage, etc. But I can't find her in 1851 or 1861 - is this me, or Ancestry?! Probably me. :-)

Eringobragh1916

Eringobragh1916 Report 5 Nov 2015 22:22

Nicola.
.JEH was at home in London 1851...her father died that year and her sister 1853 I wonder if she followed the Victorian mourning period of a year (father) then perhaps another when Mina died in which case you would at the earliest be looking at 1854 for a marriage...she herself would still be only 21/22 years old. Have you located her on the 1861 Census....?

Nicola'S

Nicola'S Report 5 Nov 2015 13:57

Thank you again. I've contacted the clergy database and will post on here when they reply.
What a wonderful epitaph you have found; it makes for great reading.
Drat that elusive marriage between DRM and JEH! I keep on looking and using different permutations, but no luck yet ............

Extraordinary stuff - how did you dig that one up??!! Yes, wonderful reading even though Rutton is the father of David Rutton who goes on to marry my relation's sister.
Does anyone know where the C of E records of their ordained folk are kept, please? As a last ditch, I could perhaps contact them re the marriage of their ordained David Rutton Morris and possible offspring. Surely, they will have definitive records .........??
As a postscript, the Jamaica archives did get back to me and they have accepted with grateful thanks my transcribed copy of the life and times while the Revd. Morris and his wife Jane lived there in mid 1880's.
