Hi - looks like you are on the right track
Like a lot of people back then they often uses a different name then they were born with. So our Maud Elizabeth was in fact born Elizabeth Maud - but called her self Maud - Maud did marry a Harry Payne before she married Clifford J Hughes ( this has been verified by Clifford grandson - my cousin who I have never met. Interesting to see she may have remarried after cliff's death, I will try and get in touch with him to see if he can confirm

That's odd Chris- wondering if wife of Thomas is a mistake. I don't see another Susannah Barmer in the area.

Possible birth:
BARMER, ELIZABETH MAUD (Mother's maiden name: WORRALL) GRO Reference: 1903 M Quarter in WOLVERHAMPTON Volume 06B Page 631
Looks to be this family:
1901 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription 2, St Jamess Street, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England
Herbert S Barmer Head Married Male 32 1869 Wolverhampton, General Labourer At Ironworks Susannah Barmer Wife Married Female 31 1870 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Herbert S Barmer Son - Male 11 1890 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Bernard Barmer Son - Male 3 1898 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, William H Barmer Son - Male 1 1900 Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, -------------------------------------------
It's a little odd- the death for the mother is registered 3rd qtr of 1902, yet Elizabeth Maud was registered 1st qtr 1903- possibly a late registration.
Elizabeth Maud is not with her father in 1911

I am also searching for Maud Elizabeth Barmer and Harry Payne. They were married in 1920. I have just sent for the marriage certificate (as a PDF from GRO). These people are my husband's grandparents. He never knew his father or grandparents as his father left his mother when my husband was a very young child. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone who is related to them. Catherine
